Stick vs. Auto

What is the better tranny for the 1/4 mile. I have an R/T with a stick(at my wife's request) and I'm not wanting to swap are anything like that. I'm just being curious.

Auto shifts quicker than any human... Srt's with autos are about .5 second quicker than six speeds

08 SRT8 #6077, InTune, AFE CAI, 180 TT, Catch Can, Cabin Air Filter, Speedlogix Strut Brace, Hawk HPS brake pads. Best time of 12.78@109.22

The 6 sp is probably quicker than the auto but you have to be really good at launching and shifting...very few are....case in point is from the SRT10 Viper Truck forums...the regular cab is a 6sp...most stock trucks ran mid 13s+....one guy on the forum had been racing sticks for years...I watched a video of him shifting and it was amazing....he never lifted his foot off the gas during shifts...his stock truck ran mid 12s...the quickest stock truck on the forum..

Auto is the quicker one in the 1/4. Though old, the nag1 is a great transmission.

I am far from good at driving a stick so I wouldn't stand a chance against too many people. I do enjoy driving and I know I will get a lot better over time.

........I just watched Jay Leno driving one of his new Lambo's that has the "E"-Shift. He tells you that he had trouble getting used to the thought of it but he said it is so quick to shift, you can't imagine it. He says NO HUMAN could ever replicate it.

its not just the transmission type...its the gearing too

the automatic is faster

launch control will help some, but then again Automatics have launch control too.....

i chose the automatic because its faster....why buy a fast car and then pick the slower transmission

6 speed would have been more fun, but in an equal race the automatic should always win.....if you plan on racing 5.0's the transmission will make the difference between winning and losing

5-speed NAG1 - takes 3 gear shifts to complete the 1/4mi

6-speed TREMEC - takes 4 gear shifts to complete the 1/4mi

Advantage, auto.
