I finally got around to buying an inTune and a custom tune for my Challenger. I loved the throttle response and reduced torque management, but didn't like the extra noise and raspy tone of my perfect Solo exhaust. I also have a CAI and 180 t-stat. I wanted to keep the 180 stat, throttle response and reduced TM, so I removed the custom tune, installed the CAI tune, and changed the fan settings.
My question is, does the CAI tune know my car is a 6-speed and runs on 91 octane fuel, or did I load a CAI tune for 89 octane fuel?
I think they spec the fuel requirement for the manuals higher than the autos is due to the tranny and not the tune. You can upshift a manual and load it which would cause ST KNKs where as an auto would downshift. Autos also pull a lot of timing at shift to prevent KNK so they can get away with less ocatne. That is why the autos seem to perform better with tunes (less tq mgmnt) than the manuals. Therefore they spec higher octane to lessen the risk of KNK when the engine is loaded more in a high gear. I've seen logs of both M6 392s and A5s and they both get to about 18 degrees of timing (stock tune) which leads me to believe that the tunes are the same.
How long did you drive your custom tune? I take it your custom tune is locked to where you can't add throttle boost or adjust your fans with it?
