2009 Challenger R/T lost a second motor ..

On the R/t specific page I submitted a new thread titled "Engine Broke" back in October 2011. Well yesterday I lost a second motor to the same failure according to the dealer. Timing chain broke. Reference post here:
2009 R/T Motor Broke

Just curious to see if any other 09 5.7 ltr hemi owners experienced the same problems like I have?

It may be coincidence, but from what I've read, and I've read a lot of timing chain issue threads, the issue seems to happen through lots of highway driving.

I've never found a thread where someone says "yea I was accelerating from a light", it's always cruising on the highway.

I'd like a quiet gear drive on mine... I wonder if there is one out there? Probably for the 6.1, but I wonder if it'd be different for the 6.4....?

I am very surprised, I wonder what parts were used from the orignal engine. Hope the dealer/Dodge makes this right.

I scanned in the service invoice for the first new engine parts list. So i guess whats not there they used old parts.

So for I am very pleased with the help of Chrysler Detriot in my responses to "what the hell is going on"...
Things they are doing for me to keep me satisfied and especially my wife is:
1) Reimburse me for my towing expense $118.00
2) Reimburse me for 1 car payment I already made $500.00
3) Giving me $20.00 a day for as long as its still being repaired (up to another car payment) do the math.
4) Approved $40.00 a day in car rental fees, up to 7 days also must be a Chrylser product.

Overall very pleased with there cooperation in making it right. Plus another new motor and lifetime warranty remains in place...Good Thing!!

....and yes both engines let go (timing chain) at highway speeds.

So if this repair takes more then 1 week, you have to start paying for the rental car yourself? Why didn't they give you a car off of their lot? That would have cost them nothing, and there would have been no time limit being imposed upon you.

Popular theory used to be that the MDS was responsible, due to every single car involved being an auto. It was believed that the MDS components took up room, and that the normal timing chain wouldn't fit. Cars with it were given a thinner, cheaper timing chain as a result, and they were wearing out and breaking. The apparent discovery that MDS and non-MDS cars use the same cheapo timing chain has kinda ruined that theory, though. IIRC things have gone back to square one, and no one has any idea what's going on anymore.

Pieces Parts

Visited the service dept today and saw all the parts they are going to use on another new engine. Small block 5.7 hemi crated, new heads crated and guess what the same type timing chain and all necessary gaskets to go with it. I think I am going to start a pool on who can guess when this motor will fail. any takers. All they are doing is fixing the problem, not solving the problem.
