So i had my 2015 SRT detailed today and noticed a lot of issues with the paint and underlying body. there are a couple super minor dings in the hood and they are rusting. also up by the hood scoop the paint is starting to bubble up like there's rust under the paint. door panels etc has miniscule little rust spots as well. what confuses me is i thought the hoods were aluminum on the 2015 srt? even so the car only has 6k miles on it so i'm not sure how the body is already starting to show rust spots......my beemer had 80k miles on it, was dinged to all hell and had ZERO rust. typically the body panels are sealed before being painted.
any one else had or noticed issues like this? i'm taking it in to service next week to show them but just curious if i'm the only one.
Are you sure you're not seeing rail dust? It comes from iron pieces that get embedded in the paint during rail transport. Google rail dust removal and this may help.
15 SRT hoods are indeed aluminum but can still corrode under the right conditions - like contaminates under the paint.
Personally, I'm surprised by how much dirt and junk is in my paint.
I haven't found any rail dust in mine but it wouldn't surprise me if there was. My old RAM's roof was covered in the stuff and I didn't notice until the bright-work warranty had expired.
If you have some embedded rail dust, you can remove it by using a Meguiar's Smooth Surface Clay Kit. As far as the bubbled paint, have the dealer check it out.
After looking at the hood pic again, it does appear to be rail dust. The clay kit recommended should handle it. The other "bubbling" I've seen on areas where a sealant was sloppily applied, and then just painted over. That's what the other pic looks like, but the service department should check it out one way or another.
