Have a 2010 black srt which is babied. Mileage around 23k. I mainly just show it in the summer and it is never in the rain nor do I let it bake in the sun. On both doors it looks like wax residue in the crevices around the handles. its actually primer. Sticks out like a sore thumb. I tried 3 dealers who said forget it when I brought up that I have 70k ish left on their premium care warranty. The body shops tell me they may be able to pull the handles and touch it up or I can have both doors painted. I contacted srt who said they would be willing to pay for the touch up. They won't pay to paint the doors
Anybody have any advice? All 3 shops said they are not sure if the color will match if they paint the doors. But nobody seems too sure that the "touch up" will work either. Feel like I am kind of stuck. Thx
I have the same issue on my 2012 trunk lid, up by the rear glass. It's almost like someone got a little "polish" happy and burned through.
If it's just the door handles, pop the painted covers off and touch them up off the car. They come off pretty easy.. any body shop should be able to do it in about 10 minutes per door.
I would NOT paint the whole door, that's one way to wreck the value, and ruin the over-all look... especially if you're even a 1/10th of a shade off.
2 things I have learned after 25 years in the auto body industry. 1) Never let anyone who tells you they can't fix your car, work on it. 2) There is somebody in your area who can do top quality paintwork that will satisfy you and you just need to find him. A good painter should be able to blend the door handle pockets and clear your whole door, matching the color and the peel. The painter you are looking for probably doesn't work at the local crash repair shop but probably does Harleys or custom work somewhere and he may not be cheap. It can be done and is not a big deal for a good painter. Most bodyshops don't have good painters anymore, they just have fast ones. As my first boss always said, "Paint is paint and a good painter should be able to paint anything." The only complication with your door is that the clear cannot be blended in the panel and that necessitates clearing the whole door. Sorry I can't help you with a name but I am sure there is somebody near that can do the work.
Thx for the input
Now we have found rust bubbles all over the hood
Srt says paint issues are only covered for 3 yrs. they will give me 500 towards fixing doors and hood but I must use a Chrysler shop. Meanwhile the shop is not saying they can match it
Obviously dodge has issues with these cars and Isi not stepping up
I will never buy a new dodge again. This is my 4th and I am done
So i ended up writing a letter to the CEO last Friday and got a call from Detroit on Monday. The gentleman said just get estimates and we will send u a check. I had the doors touched up and it looks fine. Dealer didn't charge. The hood repair is 1500. Waiting on a check. Happy with the result but there sure seems to be a lot of issues with rust corrosion and paint.
