Potential 6 Speed Issue!?!?

Hi guys,

First time poster, long time reader. I recently purchased a used 2011 Rt with 40,000 Kilometers. I love the car so farce but I've noticed a small issue and I need some advice. On rare occasions I'll have an odd "rub" going into second gear. I've been driving standard for years, I had a charger before this beauty. When I'm clutching to get into second the car just refuses to enter the gear, and I'll have to enter third just to continue.

Hopefully you guys have some advice, I'm taking it into the dealership Thursday.

seems like your referring to the famous skip shift, unfortunatelly thats normal
there are ways to eliminate that, a skip shift eliminator or a tuner

You can purchase a skip shift eliminator for about $20, it plugs into the trans and your issue will be gone forever. It takes longer to put the car on ramps or a lift than it does to install this item. There are vendors here like speedlogix who sell them.
Enjoy your new car.

OPERATION

The PCM controls the skip shift solenoid, locking out second and third gear when all of the following conditions are met:

  • Engine coolant exceeds 41°C (106°F)
  • Vehicle speed is between 12 and 20 MPH
  • Engine operating above 1322 RPM
  • The PCM verified first gear speed/RPM
  • Throttle position sensor (TPS) signal is less than 0.68 volt above closed throttle (23 percent throttle opening)
The solenoid resets when vehicle speed drops below 3 MPH.

Skip shift should require shifting 1st to 4th, if it is letting you go right to 3rd the problem may be something else. Having said that the skip shift eliminator was my first mod and I highly suggest it to anyone with a 6 speed.

^^ Skip shift ONLY blocks 2nd gear bruder, you can still go to third as its just a selenoid the blocks the 2nd gears gate. Really should be some kind of warning tho, like the airbag stickers as there are plenty of owners who are unaware of this feature.

the skipshift should not prevent 3rd at all, if it really does block 3rd engagement, then something is wrong, on my 11 it will indicate on the evic everytime it tries to do it.....says something like " 1 to 4th"
