I would expect the externals of the parts to look the same. After all, they have to fit in the same tight spaces and use the same screw holes. I would expect that the internals of the tensioner would be different. I doubt you would see the difference if they just replaced the spring.

Good point! Especially since I am just comparing it to a photo. I wonder if DesertBum noticed any difference...

OMG, there is alot of posts here.
Can someone sum this up? has there been any fixes for this, or what can you do to avoid it(if possible). What is the "target car" for this to happen too?

There's a small summary on page 1 - post 1. Drive around with auto stick all the time and the chances of this happening seem to be zero as its only happening to 5.7 autos so far.

save your engine and get a predator/trinty tuner and turn off MDS now!!!!

So mds is off when you use the trans in auto stick...

The point isn't that it costs time/money to fix. The point is that if this fails while you are driving it could *kill* you. I'd rather pay for a little more gas than take such a large, now well-known, risk.
