Well, I could have been more clear on that. Throughout this tread there have been some who mentioned that when they got their car back from repairs they noticed MDS engaged more often than before. One stated that it was less often than before. If they did flash updates I would understand the less often as a possible factory attempt to mitigate the failures. But so many have totally varying experiences, I'm stumped and everytime I just about convince myself to go and get the auto, yep, another TC failure is reported.
Ok, I get what you are saying now, and I do recall reading similar. As noted by others, all sorts of changes are possible with this car after a battery cable reset (or even firmware load). It may not even be the case that the engine is doing anything different. It is just behaving as it would when freshly connected to the battery, which is different from how it behaves after some road miles...or maybe it is behaving different, altogether. Who knows? That one is a really hard one to pin down objectively, I think.
It's not that I really needed 370 hp...but having 150+ hp riding shotgun at a moment's bidding w/o a 6000 rpm moonshot is what makes me feel like I'm in the right car for me. The roar of a v8 seals the deal!
The Google keyword is "ethanol-free gas". The truth is coming to light. Check out http://pure-gas.org/
I CAN TELL YOU FOR A FACT, my car has spent AT LEAST 80% of it's life between 70 and 80 MPH, and that's when it seems most, or should I say a MAJORITY of failures occur.
Another thing I have noticed about my car since I've gotten it back is that it now spends MUCH MORE TIME IN MDS!
OK, here we go, your chain broke at 27,000 miles, and 80% 0f those miles were in MDS right?
So 21,600 miles at 75mph in MDS equals 288 hours in MDS before the chain broke.
Even if the estimate was 10% off it would only change the outcome by 28.8 hours give or take.
Now, ordinarily I wouldn't accept an estimate like this (80%) because people in general are poor judges of time, but this is different because if you are indeed a pilot I know you're always aware of time like this because pilots log all flight time by the hour so this estimate has a lot of credibility.
So if we could get a couple more credible estimates like this we'd be pretty close to nailing another piece of the puzzle down.
(I still wonder if the screen on the VVT solenoid is involved)
y'all can do all the speculation you want, it will not help, after hundreds of posts they know the problem and don't care. start to put the pressure on dodge on all forums sites anywhere you can. we can post till 2020, it won't help until they feel that this will hurt possible sales. put them on notice, starting tomorrow. i plan to with the two dodge dealers that i deal with.

Better yet, drop in a 426 crate motor after the tc breaks
Then you can avoid it happening again

Any insight as to why some say their MDS activates much more often? Like everyone else, I'd actually like to see this whole mess resolved preferably by a factory fix or by preventative maintenance. I'd really like to get an auto as a daily driver but I've been sitting on the fence for too long undecided as to whether using autostick would be a PIA or not.
If you really want an auto daily driver consider a 2008-2010 6.1L SRT8, no MDS and a completely different timing belt setup, I can't comment about real world fuel economy on the automatics, but it is much better than sticker on the manuals, I average around 19 mixed mostly highway, and have had peak of about 25 mpg on a 300+ mile road trip mostly cruising at 70+ mph. Prices for a low mileage car are similar, maybe even cheaper than a new RT.

We can discuss the strategies to deal with the aftermath of a failure or to avoid one, or argue among ourselves about what to do all we want, but I think that CruzKing is right: this has gone long enough. At this point we shouldn't be speculating anymore. I just emailed Dodge and got the canned corporate response (albeit immediate and polite): they don't recognize this thread and recommend seeing a dealer if the car ever has a problem. I went ahead and bought an auto R/T in spite of the very depressing accounts and already long list of casualties (I'll drive in AutoStick exclusively until a 2013 is released or we get answers)... and I'm no troublemaker but I think we have to rock the boat in the face of such inertia.

Until safety (deaths) come into play due to this, nothing is going to happen.
Warranties will run out & the cost to Dodge is done.
With the small % of failures based on total cars sold its a miniscule problem.
We all have to realize this, dollars & the amount of actual failures will determine mfgr action if any.
So with the cost to rectify this, again based on the small % of TC failures, Dodge is just going to deal with the failures that are under warranty & just not worry about it..
where are these instructions? in the box w the part?
Id like to see it. if its true, im ripping off the screens on mine! that is, if they are still there
The info on removing the screens comes from the computer instructions from STAR that your tech gets when he logs in to do the work.
