I'm hoping to gather your thoughts on the benefits/pros/cons on a CAI for a 2012 Dodge Challenger RT 5.7l, not sure if the year matters, I just specified it because that's the year I own.
There are no cons realistically. You wont notice a dramatic HP increase, but your gas mileage will improve a little. Not to mention the CAI filter and tube make a dramatic difference in sound over the stock box and silencer. They also look nice in your engine bay. Always worth the $200-$400 in my opinion. There isnt much difference in between the brands, but I went with K&N. A buddy of mine went with AirRaid. Both look good and sound good.

There was a thread a long time ago by DodgeTony (since moved on to a lighter, more mod friendly Mustang). He enjoyed racing at the drag strip and posted the best times I saw with a stock R/T. I recall he did some testing, and most of the performance benefit was from the K&N filter element, not the CAI tube. If I remember correctly, absolute best results were with the K&N filter and a stock SRT air box. If you just want to improve performance, the drop-in filter gives you great bang for the buck. Of course, if you are also interested in dressing up your engine compartment and more sound, then the full CAI is the way to go.
It's more hood dressing than anything else. Oh yes, many have the "sucking sound" that many people go crazy for. Don't expect much, if any, HP. Most of them suck in hot air from the engine compartment.
Like said earlier, I would just get an aftermarket air filter (K&N, AEM, AFE) and call it a day. If you get a good sounding exhaust, you won't care or hear the intake sound as much on the CAI.

I agree with him. I personally prefer AFE products. And the full intake was purchased BEFORE I started reading here. I personally thought it sounded obnoxious, but it was high quality. I noticed absolutely zero difference in throttle response, power gain or mileage. I'm much happier with a drop in with a 6.1 air box with no resonator.
