SRT8 Tire Question

Hi guys...I plan on ordering an 09 SRT8 tomorrow. When it comes in I want to put different tires on the car. I was wondering if anyone knows the max front width you can use without any inner fender rub at full turn. I know 245's come on the car, but will 255's still be ok? I assume they would, but I want to check first.
So far I have not seen anything on the web about it. Like are the offsets on the stock Challenger SRT8 wheels different then the R/T's...or are they the same? Any help would be appreciated!

Cory

Re: SRT8 Tire Question

Cory I know the proto types had 22's on the front, they rubbed on turns and hard bumps. 255s are gonna be tight, may make it, but you will have to drive easy in and out of parking lots etc..

Whay do you want to go even bigger.. the car is tunned in the front end for the size tire on it, I know it would look cool, but I guess on my SRT I am gonna wear the factory meats out 1st. And F1 super car tires are a very nice tire too.

if you do go bigger you may be also going customed tuned suspension? If so then I guess it makes sense for you.

Just remember that the axes, shafts, hubs, spindles etc are all designed for a certain tire size, not that you are trying to go a huge amount larger, but keep that in mind too.

PS have you seen the car in person? They look big to me.. my 2 cents.. good luck and man enjoy your ride too!

Re: SRT8 Tire Question

I asked the SRT engineers about the max. front tire width. They said P245. Anything wider will rub. That's why the F1s on the SRT are not P255 on all four wheels.

Re: SRT8 Tire Question

I do not use stock rubber. The dealership will replace the tires, before I take delivery, with something on my own choosing. These F1's are no exception as I will never use any Goodyear product.

I normally run one size wider, if the wheels and space allow, as a personal preference. That is why I asked if there are any clearance issues with 255's or if the offset will allow it. Most cars have a definite limit where X will work, but the next step up won't. I guess you have never been involved with Mustangs...255 is not wide at all

Yes I have seen the car, at the auto show and at the local dealer. The dealer has/had 3. One sold right away, one just sold to a guy in Norway (of all places) and they have a black one left. Don't feel like paying the 20K markup, so I will have to order one and wait

Thanks for the input...

Cory
