...Or, don't go through all the reading and leave your car in the summer sun for 15 minutes or so. Just get a leading edge pealed back, take your time and pull it off by pulling the vinyl back on itself. The only thing that you will have to do afterwards is remove the oxidation of the areas that were not protected by the vinyl.
The heat will absolutely help, although on newer cars it is not always needed. From past experience, on hoods, do not rest your elbows on the hood for leverage or you will leave dents.
