I am going to college in the fall. From the stories I have heard about people's cars getting molested in the parking lots I do NOT want that happening to my paint. One of my buddies went to college with a brand new car; after 4 years there were 30 scratches, 14 dents, and countless scuffs. Few if any his fault. So before I head off I will be getting my entire car either wrapped or Plasti dipped. I was thinking maybe carbon fiber for a wrap? Anyone seen a challenger like that or have any advice/opinions on which I should do to my car:11:
You're kidding right? I mean a wrap is not a "force field". You're going to have the same dents, dings, mirrors broken off, you name it. Parking at a college is harder on your car than you can imagine. I know, because we've had 3 kids go through 4 years each of college.
Best thing you could do is sell your car, get a car that's sound mechanically, but beat to hell already, because that's what you're going to end up with anyhow. And the amazing thing is there's a chance that absolutely NONE of it will be your fault.
Leave the Challenger @ Home, and buy a POS to drive while your at college. Itll save your challengers beautiful face, Unless you live close enough to drive it every day and dont mind walking the distance from a safer parking lot.
while buying a POS will not help with co-eds looking to drive with the cool guy in the cool car, it will save you from spending thousands of dollars on a quality wrap
personally i had a POS and it was so much fun driving through anything i deemed in need to be either knocked upside down (garbage cans) or marked of my 135mm wide tires... with my whopping 55hp Peugeot station wagon... lol.. good times!!
Don't you dare park that car in a college parking lot! Go get a beater like dude said- 4 cyl. honda, nissan, toyota- change the oil regularly along with keeping an eye on your tires and other easy maintenance. College costs wayyyy too much to be thinking about your car in the lot instead of the class you are attending. IMO
If I could go back and do college again I sure as hell wouldn't leave the best chick magnet I could find at home or wrapped in a big jimmy hat. As the saying goes....."your doing it wrong"
Let the car do what it does best and enhance your college experience. Take your lumps together and remember it fondly afterwards. Think of it as your partner in crime :naughty:. Every scratch will be a war scar :headbang2:.
Worrying about every little scratch and dent is for old farts like the rest of us who are just trying to recapture some part of what you are about to get to experience. The next few years will most likely be the last in your life that you are really free. After that the system will have your nuts in a vice and you'll be turned into another worker bee making Wall Street crooks rich. Enjoy your time, it's worth 100 challengers.
You can always buy another car, can't roll back the clock brother :11:
Edit - When guys worry too much about their car it's actually a turn off to chicks, no matter how cool the car is. Wives put up with it because they have to. Don't ever let the girls think your car is more important to you than they are...big nono.
Good luck, have fun, always know where the back exit is, and don't take out any private student loans.
Thats kind of how I look at it. I am bringing my car to college no matter what, I just want to prevent or lessen the damage that happens to it. I dont want to seem like a punk kid or a jackass. But that car has gotten me more women than I can remember. And its going to do more of that in college, a freshmen in college with a brand new Challenger? I'm not going to pass that up
I would like to add that I do baby my car and value it more than myself sometimes. But I'm a 17 year old kid, you guys know what was about when you were that age too
The purpose of the car is to get chicks. Where you are going there will be lots of chicks...
It's a tool, plain and simple. Like a hammer. Use it is my advice. In fact by the end of the first semester it should have a nickname. Just don't let it get too scratched up or it could lose it's magic.
You guys are killing me with your advice /facepalm
You could save the money now and just repaint it in a few years to look brand new. Or get a big thick car cover and put it on every time you leave the car... I laugh at the guys who do that at work but I'm sure it works. I'd never waste that much time in my day worrying about something so trivial.
OK... the beater idea is good. You can get a decent car for 3k and leave your Challenger at home. Or you can just find a better parking spot! Seriously. There's got to be resident only parking right? After a month you will start to see the best places to park. There will be students' cars that never move for weeks at a time. You're worrying too much about this. For what a wrap would cost you you can get every ding and scratch that you MIGHT get in 4 years fixed AND $2k worth of beer. Besides my first car never got damaged in my college parking lot when I lived in the dorms. It was more dangerous driving it to school and back every day when I moved off campus my junior year.
Trust me, you'll find that end spot that is unusually bigger than the rest of them and you won't have to worry about dings

Forget the beater car, get a beater skateboard. Mini board for $30 in some hot colors, keep it in the trunk of your car. Park far enough from campus to avoid getting your doors banged up and skate to class. The chicks will dig the skateboard and they will like your car even more without all of the dents and scratches. Of course all of those dents and scratches will be transferred to your knees, but hey, it'll be fun right?
dude, check out your options. The cardboard box i like..fold and put in truck but others are good too.
As far as chicks - don't think so much. When I went to college, they thought edward scissorhands was sexy. go figure.
Plastidip is like stretching a balloon over your car. it won't provide any protection, and will look awful once it is compromised and starts to peel. And it will be compromised. I vote with the beater crowd. Either that, or figure a way to structure your life so that the car is parked in a safe place. I can only hope and pray, for the sake of your car, that you are not going to UCSB, where your car will be savaged in Isla Vista.
The real problem would be jealous types walking around campus seeing your shiny new muscle car... if they are low-life's expect some issues. Or if their GFs mention what a sweet car - look out because the BF might do something stupid to it.
