Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger Spy Shots

Well it looks like the rear brake/taillight from the Concept is officially nixed.
Sadly, that was one of the key components I wanted to see. Something to really break the mold of the other cars on the road. It appears it is slowly getting chopped back to the true (an now typical) Dodge look...

I loved the rear brake/taillight from the concept! If it is nixed, I will be very disappointed...and mad...like many other Mopar fans!!!

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger Spy Shots

Ok, I got some stupid news from the Dodge dealership here in North Texas. I was on the call list to place my order. I called back to see if they were taking orders yet and the dealership said they would only get one Challenger and it was being auctioned off to the highest bidder.
Anyone else heard of this stupidity?

You may be right. Look at this spy photo:

One good note, however. It looks like the "six-shooter" interior headlight made it to production:

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger Spy Shots

I look at the front of the car...I look at the back of the car....I look at my 1/18th scale diecast...and I am more and more unhappy with what Chrysler seems to have done to the concept! They had an homerun out of the park...now it is a second base at the most!! Keep going Chrysler..how about putting a 4 cylinder engine from China under the hood...that would be the CHERRY on the top!!!

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger Spy Shots

I guess I'm in the minority here but I strongly disliked the car-width taillight. I was hoping they would do something similar to the original challenger but what they went with I like better than what they had. I'm really glad it looks like the 6-shooter headlamps made the cut though. You will instantly know its time to roll down the windows when one appears in the rear view mirror and roars by you at night!

Read on autoblog someone sat in a production challenger and they claimed it did have a 6 speed so it looks like a 6.4L 6 sp is on the menu. All this stuff is probably going to seem like quibbling by the time the thing hits the streets.

Did anyone else notice the chrome?

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger Spy Shots

I'm sure the lights go all the way across like the concept, what you are seeing is just the brake lights on, Which look to be just on the ends...... which is different from the concept (Brake lights only) that went along the whole outer edge.

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger Spy Shots

Gotta agree, champcarracing. Everyone's getting thier knickers in a twist - and we haven't really even seen the whole package yet. Relax, folks.
First there's fear of it being axed from production when Cerberus bought the company. Now that it's still going into production, we're finding other things to worry and complain about! It's STILL gonna be the hottest rod from ANY auto maker, and I'm sure - in very short time - have an abundance of aftermarket pieces to customize the car to everyone's liking.

While I'm not a big fan of the "full width taillight" that's on the concept car, I've seen other cars (from years ago) that had the taillight span the width, only to have the corners light up when the brakes were applied. The rest may light up with the parking/running lights turned on, OR it could be a reflector that spans the area between the taillights. What difference does it really make? Day or night, all anyone's gonna see of it will be rapidly getting smaller in thier windshield!
I like the square exhaust tips, the six-shooter highbeams, the wheel well flares, and what appears to be the additon of a flip spoiler. The basic shape and proportions appear to be very close (if not exactly the same) compared to the concept.
The "b pillar" I was concerned about before is becoming less of an issue for me, and I'm taking champcarracing's word (since he's actually SEEN the cars with the camo removed, not just speculating) that the end product will be more than adequate for my liking.

My biggest question can't be answered from any of these spyshots - ARE WE GOING TO HAVE A REAL MANUAL TRANSMISSION AVAILABLE IN THESE BADBOYS????? My left foot is numb and bored without a clutch pedal. Make an autostick for the ladies and give the MEN a 6 speed standard!

Re: 2008 Dodge Challenger Spy Shots

A British online magazine has commented on the pre-production Challengers. The article had two interesting points. First it said the 6.1 Hemi has been tuned to 450 hp. Second, it will sell in the UK for 40,000 pounds or $80,945!

To read the article see:
