I'd say you need to take it up with your son and agree to it "before" hand, whereas my folks at one point decided to "retroactively" charge me rent when I was living with them, on the order of $3000 they owed me. Kinda left a bad taste in my mouth if you know what I mean, but what are you gonna do? Its not like they didn't already have it, they just "shorted" me on a payback of money I lent them as "rent." Oh well.
If I were you I'd keep saving money in my 401K, like others have said, as every share you get with it now will jump way up as the economy finally recovers (be it a year from now). Also, save what you can towards the biggest down payment you can so that your monthly payments are smaller. Try to make the payments now into a savings account. That way, when you go to buy, you'll already be used to it plus you'll be financing that much less. Good luck!

I ordered my Challanger R/T in October at $500 below MSRP. My company has laid off 75% of it's employees. The rest have to take 16 days off each quarter, except the field engineers. We lost our $600 car allowance. There goes the money for my R/T payment. I canceled my order for the R/T. The dealer didn't give me any trouble at all, and gave back my $4000 down payment when I walked through the door. The sales manager said it was too late for him to cancel the order, and would use the car for stock. He said he would call me to see if anything had changed when the car comes in, in late Feb or March. There are now other dealers in the area offering Challangers at $1000 - $3000 below MSRP, depending on what you want. I'm still trying to figure out how to afford that R/T when it comes in. Here is the plan so far. Stop the 401K allotment, cut the cable TV, get out of the ESPP, reduce the insurance on the wifes car to the minimum, ask the dealer for a lower price, and charge my 26 year old son $100/month rent. What do y'all think, am I being unreasonable, or should I just let go of the dream?
LOL....wow...your son's still living at home and he's 26? My advice is to charge him $150 a week for his room and board (still a bargain) and now you have the $600 you lost from your car allowance. Good Luck!!!

As cool as the Challenger is, it's still just a car. Cars are bad investments short term. Don't let it bite into your retirement. Wait a year or two and buy a used one.

This is the first time I have seen anything relating to a Challenger that has had a discount posted for it or any kind of dealer incentive. I hope this trend picks up REAL QUICK!!!
I spoke with a dealer yesterday who said Chrysler is going to have new rebates/offers starting TOMORROW (Wednesday the 7th). Hold off.
Sweet! I am talking with a dealer now online and he is offering $2,000 under msrp and an extra $1,000 if I finance through a credit union on an R/T. Im working third shift anyways so I wont be able to make it to him till later in the week so I'll have to wait and see.
Hello Just joined the forum,Im from Canada and I am just about to oder my 09 srt 6 speed, first time to a new Dodge, always gm but love the Challenger style, the best price Ive found in the past month is msrp and that was yesterday,on phone today to put deposit down .will be 51930.00 cdn plus taxes . Im told 4to 6 months build time ,after reading though the forum should I worry about losing my deposit of 2g ,Canada will be closing the plant in 3 to 4 months . other dealers in my area still want more than msrp on the srt8. thanks for your replys, would like to order asap. but any savings would be sweet. Greg
Hey Johnny,Talked to dealer later today about my concern,(have not put deposit down yet)they stated if they were to shut down, the plant my order would be processed through the USA . your idea is a good one ,just need daytime running lamps and a km speedo? have to check into import fees on new car? how much below msrp is the upper western USA, Im in Vancouver B.C.
The son just finished his bachlors degree, and I stayed with my parents until I found a good job when I got out of the USN. He's got a good job now. The $3000 below MSRP Challangers are at Meadors Dodge in Dallas, TX. They are advertising these numbers in the paper. I think the deal still hinges on the 410K. I've been putting back 10%. Maybe I'll split the difference. 5% for the 401K and $300 for the son. I'm glad nobody said to give up the dream. Thanks for the advice.
