Brampton to build 30,000 cars yearly.

Chrysler will use its Brampton, Ontario plant to build 30,000 Dodge Challengers per year, according to a report by Canada's Globe and Mail. The report confirms previous rumors that the Challenger would be a relatively low-volume model, with a limited number of configurations. The Brampton plant currently builds all Dodge Magnum, Charger and Chrysler 300C units. With sales of those vehicles slowing slightly, there will be room for production of the Challenger. In April, a published report indicated that the car would be offered as a V8 manual-only configuration. Chrysler's strategy contrasts with GM's plan to sell 100,000 Camaros annually, in both V8 and V6 configurations. Yearly production of the Ford Mustang is even higher — 192,000 units in 2005.

... and by "limited number of configurations" do they mean all the challengers will be pretty much alike?

Re: Brampton to build 30,000 cars yearly.

I think they have chosen the middle road, to many in production will limit the resale value and eventually the overall value of the car when it becomes a collectors item down the road which i believe this car will be also along with its first generation brothers. Minimizing configurations such as engines V8 only will prolly help keep production costs down. I think there will be a typical number of different options available for interior stuff etc.. like there are with the 300s and chargers unless its incompatible with the challenger interior. The drivetrain options may be to soon to tell honestly 5 speed six speed, 5 auto. We may get some leeway there hopefully and get our choice of all three. The negative connotations on building a convertible are a bit depressing, 30,000 a year with some convertibles would really make a good collectors car for us convertible buffs. Our cars wont be a dime a dozen vehicles like the mustang or camaros which to me is right.

Re: Brampton to build 30,000 cars yearly.

Try to think of this number as a starting point for the Challenger. Future Options and the amount made by Brampton will depend on Demand and Orders. Brampton is flexible in that area.

Re: Brampton to build 30,000 cars yearly.

I hate to rain on anyone's parade but the new Challenger will never be a collectible most likely. Even if it does just what interest would DCX have in planning the production around any vehicle's potential as a collector's car? That's just silly. Their job is to make money now, to get vehicles out the factory gates and off the dealers' lots.
As far as collectibility goes, take a look at an old muscle car, it was cheap and simple. Nothing today is cheap or simple, electronics has made every car a major headache if any minor problems come up after warrenty. Try getting a replacement for an ECU or something like that in 20 years, it will be very expensive if it can be done at all. Just remember too that car bubbles have come and gone before, there will be a correction in the market one day. Nothing can go up forever.

Sounds like the same thing they did to the Plymouth Prowler!

Some dealers won't want or won't get very many. Rural dealers in small towns probably won't earn very many and won't want them. As hot as this car is going to be, I have a feeling that they will be allocated, at least initially, on previous years' LX sales. Ford allocated the Mustang that way early on when they were so hot.
