It's clear from the posts here that some folks can and will purchase this car at any price point and others are simply kidding themselves with wishful thinking. We'll see how this shakes out over the next several months but I sense another Viper in the offing...

your forgetting that most of the time if you deposit money at the begining you can get cars at specified amount over invoice or msrp, i have never seen a car go for higher for msrp 3-6 months before the dealer gets it. Hell the solistice my friend got was 500 over invoice he got one of the first in the area.

That may be but the Solstice has hardly had the fanfare and buildup this car is getting. It's a neat little car with its own following but it's no Challenger and the dealers know it. Still, I'll admit I'm not a buying expert as you apparently are so I will defer to your experience.

BTW does anyone know what "say" the factory/DCX Corporate actually has in discouraging dealer mark up?

Although they discourage it, there's really nothing that DCX is able to do about it, as dealers are in fact independent franchises operated by large corporations/automotive groups. Just try and get DCX Customer Assistance Center involved whenever you have a legitimate complaint with regard to a particular Dodge/Chrysler dealership...their position is useless, as their hands are tied.

I think when time comes to put the money up some people are going to shocked......Around here the dealers have already said there will be a 10K mark up.......I have asked about the challenger and thats what I was told and ask if I wanted to put some money down to save one and I told them where to shove it........Alot of people are going to find out that this car will be harder to get than they think.

A friend had put a dep on a Shelby vert with the agreement of a 5k bump and about a month ago the said it would be a 10k bump. I guess he did not get it in writing. I will have to ask him. He wants the car pretty bad so he talks like he is going to pay it. I would walk if for nothing more than princaple.

Re: Brampton to build 30,000 cars yearly.

that sucks. I want a challenger, but this release a new model and lets not make enough so that demand pulls manufacturing is stupid. They would rather make 10-12 grand profit per car then have a car that they could sell thousands of make 500-1000 dollars a car. This is ignorate if DCX only makes that many and they set on showroom floors with 10,000 dollar dealer markups on them then that is were they will stay as the Barrett Jackson buyers flood the dealerships to buy them. I will buy a corvette or porsche before I spend 40 grand on a dodge challenger.....

Out of curioisty I went to the Dodge site last night and built an R/T Charger just to get an idea about pricing. The R/T starts at a little over 30K. You don't get many choices but you can easily hit 35k with a few clicks of the mouse button. The SRT starts at 38k. Granted some really savvy buyers may beat these prices but it gives you a point of departure when you think about a new car two years down the road. Factor in inflation and potential mark up and well, you get the picture. Bottom line is forget about sub 30k for this puppy. Of course a hefty down payment or a good trade will help out quite a bit.
