Re: Brampton to build 30,000 cars yearly.

Ok I went to the dode website and took a look at the charger r/t model. It barely tops the 30 grand mark and dealer invoice is around 28 grand. We bought a honda pilot 2006 ex-l which MSRP for around 32.5 or so and went out the door for around invoice of 29.5 grand. Again the dodge charger or challengers except SRT-8s are not 40 grand large cars. They make a 40 grand (except SRT-8) challenger my money is going elsewhere despite the emotional connectivity to the challenger (my dad had a 71 340 SE). Common sense has to come into play cause there are 40-50 grand cars out there with a hell of a lot better prestige to the name then dodge or chrysler......

Granted some really savvy buyers may beat these prices but it gives you a point of departure when you think about a new car two years down the road. Factor in inflation and potential mark up and well, you get the picture. Bottom line is forget about sub 30k for this puppy. Of course a hefty down payment or a good trade will help out quite a bit.

I have said all alone that this car will not be had for less than 40K the first year. And it wont get any better unless DC steps up and makes more than 30K a year.

Post Re: Brampton to build 30,000 cars yearly.

30,000 cars a year won't satisfy the initial demand, markup will be sadly high for the first several months or more, and some people are going to have to wait a long time to get their car.

That said, within a couple of years time, I think most everybody who really wants one of these cars will have one. I'm in no hurry at all, as I plan to wait for ALL the bugs to be worked out and get perhaps a 3rd year car. This plays into my hands.

But for those who HAVE to be 1st on their block, or who need to replace an unreliable old car, or who simply want one of these bad boys very badly, it is going to be an insufferable wait in line.

This forum is going to be hell while we're waiting.

There will be complete kits sold to make stock GTs look like Shelbys. They will be common enough that you won't ever be able to tell by looking whether or not it is the real deal, and may outnumber real cars sooner or later.

To me, that's not a reason not to buy a car I love, but I have to agree with the original post. It's going to get tough to spot an origional GT500 through all the fakes.

I agree, and I'm praying the Challenger does not weigh as much or more.

I don't necessarily agree with this. Initial markup will be very high, but base price does not have to be.

A car that sells only 30,000 units generally has high fixed costs that translate to high base price. But the Challenger will share its fixed costs for the most part with the new 300C, Magnum, Charger and anything else based on the LY platform. Sure, tooling for the sheetmetal and providing the unique interior involve fixed costs that will raise the car's base price for such a low volume. But overall R&D as well as all of the chassis and drivetrain costs should be absorbed by the LY platform in general, and not the Challenger specifically.

I think the base price will not be all that bad, once time passes, initial demand subsides, and greedy Dealers can't get away with price gouging any more.

Don't you be so sure. After showing on the TV show "the Apprentice", buyers ordered 5000 cars in the 1st hour after the car when on sale.

Also, the Solstice is very limited production - only 20,000 cars per year, and yet the base price is fairly low. Now, I expect the Challenger to run about $32,000 MSRP, and I have to agree with you that the Challenger and Camaro will be more high profile and more in demand than the Solstice. But 30,000 cars per year is not a TINY number of cars and Dodge can always up the numbers in any event if there is enough of a clamor for it.

We are going to have to be patient. No way everybody is going to be able to get a car the 1st year. But within 3 years, I would guess that everybody who wants one will be able to buy one for MSRP.

Re: Brampton to build 30,000 cars yearly.

I'll take a base Challenger with a V8, Dodge can shove all the electronics and power windows up their . Its just more stuff that will break in the future. I'll take a simple V8 and the Challenger bodystyle. Nothing else is needed for me.
