Re: Challenger To Hit The Road In 18 Months?!

Most people who will buy a Challenger wont care about MPG.

It wouldnt hurt Dodge if they made a V-6 Challenger base model. The 250 hp 3.7 thats in the Charger would still push the car around with respect.

Why isnt Dodge making a strait 6? Is it just because of cost issues?

Re: Challenger To Hit The Road In 18 Months?!

Just spent too much time on a list to get a GT and now I will be putting myself on another list. The Challenger is one amazing car and as much as I love my Stang I can not resist the agressive look and 425 HP of the Challenger.

After this year, Mopar will be phasing out the 195 hp Jeep "Power-Tech" 4.0 Straight 6, which was in the Wranger for decades. It's an ancient AMC-design that dates back to the 1964 Rambler! It was a great engine, I hate to see it go. (I own 2 Jeep Grand Cherokees - my 1995 has 170,000 miles on it and its still going strong)

Mopar's already has several modern V-6 engines, and they are far more advanced, higher revving and powerful than the old Slant 6 ever was. It's easier to put a V-6 in a subcompact or minivan than a straight 6 too.

Ford makes a bundle selling V-6 Mustangs to teenage girls and budget buyers, and Dodge should consider making a base model Challenger for people who want the style but not the Hemi.

Re: Challenger To Hit The Road In 18 Months?!

First off, they should not change the shpae and look of the car at all. Aerodynamics they say. . . I spit in the general direction of aerodynamics. Aerodynamics has been an overused excuse for the bean counters to ruin too many pretty cars. Here's the skinny. . . Aerodynamics have very little effect until you get up to speeds in excess of 120MPH. My 74 Challenger would fly down the highway at over 160MPH (it would shake like crazy. . . of course it did that at 45MPH. . . but it would get up there and still have throttle left). The aerodynamics on the concept are more than good enough for a production vehicle to be sold to the public at large. How many people have the brass ones to drive at that kind of speed anyways? If they change the look of this car and say it's beacsue of aerodynamic considerations. . . its pure BS. plain and simple. They should not add a B-pillar. The lack of a B-pillar is a tremendous advantage when you are figuring out how to put a softtop on a chassis. They should release a base model and SRT and a soft top the very first year of production. WHY? because why make people sit and wait for the options that they really want. . . make them all right away and reap the rewards of an ambitious launch. Also. . . the original 70 challenger was released with a soft top version and NINE different engines to choose from. . . that was a smart move. making a bunch of different options available will be the smart way to go again. AND for the love of god, keep the 6-speed as an option. . . I can't stand driving a slush-o-matic... I have a deep rooted love of the dodge challenger, if they screw it up and make it something that I won't want to drive. . . I'll march up there and kick them all in the nuts . . . one by one. . . and I'll make sure to keep my steel toed boots on.

Aerodynamics

I definetly agree with you even though it might be nice to make a few very minor changes to the car it doesnt matter that much that you have the power to go to 200 but not the aerodynamics, you could make a pencil on wheels and it could go 300 mph. Any top speed over 140 is not really needed unless your racing, and most people that buy the Challenger will never reach its top speed. For those who do, God Bless You.
