Chrysler to decide whether to build Challenger by fall, report says
The Chrysler group may decide whether to make the Challenger muscle car as early as the end of the third quarter, CEO Tom LaSorda says.
LaSorda on Friday said Chrysler has been flooded with positive responses to the Challenger concept, shown at the Detroit auto show in January.
"You have to look at the investment, the cost of the program and the margins you can make," he told Automotive News at Chrysler's Auburn Hills, Mich., headquarters. "With something like this, you chase the business case and not the volume."
Chrysler officials have said the Challenger will likely be a lower-volume car with a V-8 engine. It would be built on the same platform as the Chrysler 300, Dodge Magnum and Dodge Charger cars. John Wolkonowicz, an analyst for Global Insight, predicts Chrysler will make 20,000 to 30,000 and sell them in the low-$30,000 range.

Lower $30s- IF that is the 6.1 then they are in the ballpark. I just wonder how many would be willing to cough up another 5 to 8 grand for the SRT/TA, whatever version.
Re: Chrysler to decide whether to build Challenger by fall, report says
Well, I'm wondering if Tom LaSorda has read Trevor Creed's decision on making the Dodge Challenger to be definitely put into production ; which is,' Trevor Creed was quoted as saying that if 25,000 people put down $5,000 each, production would be a certainty ' !!
Re: Chrysler to decide whether to build Challenger by fall, report says
I just need it to happen soon..... I'm still battling with the other SRT8 offerings.
Challenger, Charger, 300C, GCherokee, Magnum.... so much to pick from, so much potential fun.
I really want the Challenger the most BY FAR, just not sure if I can wait another 2 years or whatever. (as long as Ma Mopar get's my $ I guess they don't care)

I seriously doubt that the 6.1 is going to be offered in the low 30's. I would expect pricing to be pretty much inline with the Charger current pricing. That means a fully loaded 6.1 will be low 40s. Regular V8 Hemi in low 30's.
Now about the 6.4, has there ever been 1 spec of news even mentioning this as a possibility? I think we are few years off before we see that as an option.

I would look no further than your local Ford showroom for the answer to this question. You would see a Shelby 500 sitting there if it weren't already sold. IMHO the 392 is a no-brainer. The only real question is whether they'll build the car at all; once they decide to build it takes and costs very little to detune the 392 and stuff it in. And they'll pick up new sales from a lot of power mongers who cut their 6.1L challengers loose when it happens. If the car survives more than a year or two this engine option is a given.
I think the person who said they'll announce at SEMA is right on the money. Last time they had a 392 1970 Challenger. I wonder what they'll have this time.

This must be a mis-print /mistake ..There never was a 1970 Challenger with a 392 ! ...Also as for the 6.4..Yes there has been some talk of that; as well as implimentation of the 7.0 aka the historic 426 Hemi and also rumblings of a 7.2 aka the mighty 440 c.i !! !!!!!!!!
