Re: Chrysler's SEMA surprise: 392 HEMI Dodge Challenger Super Stock
Well, I guess more than anything I wanted to know how much. Second what it would look like. Unfortunately, it costs as much as the 426 and doesn't look like the old FirePower 392 from '57 and '58. I owned one a while back and was hoping it was going to be a repro like the 426 crates. I was also hoping it would be priced somewhere between the 5.7L and 426 crates. That being said, it appears to be more of a complete system that could easily be dropped into an older car. There is definitely some value there. I am assuming these are based on an A-Block? I haven't paid much attention to newer motors until this one so I don't know if they are still using the same architecture as the classic A-Block that will bolt right to a 727 or an LA-833?

This bit of news was found on the allpar.com site:
"The Magnum and 300 are both set to be refreshed for the 2008 model year. SRT models are now expected to use a production version of the 392 (6.4) Hemi with about 470 hp."

From the Challenger page of Allpar (although heresay):
CanadianJeepYJ wrote that, according to a Chrysler rep talking informally: “Cars should start rolling off the line in January-Feburary of 2008, hitting the dealers by March. There will be a SXT model with either a V-6 or a 4.7 V-8. The first hemi R/T's will be all autosticks. The SRT-8s will be the 6.4 Hemis putting out 500-505 HP. The story right now is the manual trans is still up in the air, he said there is a faction that wants only autosticks, and another wants the 6 speeds. He's backing the 6 speed availability.”
EDIT: After doing some more searching, there are a bunch of rumors/pieces of info about the 6.4 being the next top-dog engine (outside the Viper):
Allpar.com: "The 6.4 liter version, at a historic 392 cubic inches, due in 2008 with the Dodge Challenger, does the SRT-8 one better..." (see bottom of the first section at http://www.allpar.com/mopar/new-mopar-hemi.html

Well, that I do not like. The 6.4 should be only for the Challenger and for any potential counterpart ! I think the 6.1L is plenty for for the SRT Magnums and 300's. This is based in part due to the fair amount of posts on 300forums.com where I've read quite a lot about people driving very, very fast and doing street/highway-like racing; maybe it's just a certain group or type that are doing this ????? Also, I just think that before the Challenger is announced to have the 392 Hemi ,that these shouldn't be allowed to Trump Challenger !!!

I agree. The 392 will only be a 45 hp boost over the 6.1. If they insist on offering the 6.4 in other models, the Challenger should get a higher 6.4 horsepower version, like like the standard Corvette and the Z06 Corvette.
