As far as I am aware the target audience is people in their 50's with money to blow.

Well, the folks I see driving Mustang GT's around here cover the age span. Many are younger enlisted folks and there are a few older guys like me. This car can't afford to be aimed at a "50's" only crowd. If so, it's dead from a sales standpoint. It must be competitive with Mustangs and Camaros to survive.

Re: Dodge Challenger a little closer to reality

I do not know who they are targeting but i can tell you this , i am just about to turn 45 and i am into muscle cars I do have a 1968 plymouth road runner but am also thinking about retirement also and 30 something thousand dollar car is alot of money for a car , mid twentys no problem but low thirties is just out of reach I think . Hope they rethink that price and make this muscle car lovers dream car come true.

Yes, but I'm thinking/have always thought that a Challenger - The Challenger is almost in another class of muscle car...is/has been slightly bigger ..interior..trunk space..mostly more powerful ..more choices of engines..cooler looking... I guess maybe I'm Mopar BeeYaz't . ..so it kind of has to be priced just higher than rest.... Sure , I/we would love it if it's priced at $19.999 but if we're talking say the first runs with the 6.1L Hemi pulling 425 horses....that's the elite of the elite !!!

I'm not talking give it away , just price it so more than the elite can buy it. Thats what the vipers for , the challenger should be one for the average joe ! We want to have some fun to , without breaking the 401 k retirement account !

Yes, you're right. I was kind of referring to Stangs and Camaros, which a lot seem to compare to !! As for a Viper..it would be neat to have..even be able to drive one ; heck even get a ride in one...but to be able to get 2 Challenger's for the price of one Viper . I don't think I'd have to think about which 2 I'd opt for !! !

I hope that DCX comes up with a reasonable price structure, but I am afraid it will use the same pricing as the Chargers. In searching the web for Charger SRTs on dealer lots, I discovered that they are: 1. Scarce (1-2 on some 5-star dealer lots) and 2. Expensive (they are ordered loaded to maximize dealer profits. Every one that I have seen have Options I, II and III. This drives the price up to over $45,000). In addition, due to the demand, many dealers will be selling the 2008 Challenger for MSRP or higher.

It will be hard, but I will wait for the 2nd year of the Challenger for three reasons: 1. Better price, 2. Avoid first-year problems and 3. Possibly get a 6.4 HEMI or 'Cuda model.

Re: Dodge Challenger a little closer to reality

I would like to wait but its killing me now just to sit in one , plus my 1996 dodge ram pickup has 172,000 miles, i need to get something sooner than two years from now. Thinking about what you said the pricing is on the charger , do you know or any one know if the chargers might have been more expensive than the challengers back in the day ?

Re: Dodge Challenger a little closer to reality

I'd love to say it's a $19,999 but come on lets be realistic. What will that amount of money buy you? a nice bottom end Camry?
2007 Toyota Camry4dr Sedan CE

Starting MSRP
CE 4dr Sedan Build w/Options $18,270
WOW!!! how depressing is that? I understand it would be nice to build a super smooth looking car with a HEMI engine for cheap, but come on. We cannot possibly expect them to sell these cars for a few bux more than a Camry. Granted Dodge reinvented a shelved model, but it was a model of speed and without conditions. How many millions of camry's are sold today? its ridicoulus. As for who were the daytona's target market... yup it was people in their 50's too. Don't get me wrong I'm just a little over 30 and trying to make a decent wage, my hubby on the other hand is closer to the target audience. We are not buying a Camaro a TransAm or a Pony Mustang. It's a Challenger, it will be the first year out, it will be new design (in Plum Crazy I hope) and new engineering even if they are working on the platform of an existing design, I'm sure dodge is still trying to capitalize on the expenses they have incurred in being while developing their new line of vehicles. Everyone ones cheap insurance and crap made in MOSTLY in America so maybe we have to save up and maybe we gotta that FUGLY minivan until it comes out and I save enuff money... but I will try damn it!!! F$#% the minivan, if they dont fit in the challenger they better find another ride.

Well , of course Mrs. Challenging . .I was only using that $19,999 figure to stress my point !! ! We/one cannot not expect to pay a higher price for the Challenger, than the other so-called competitors . Likewise most cannot go for higher than around $48,999 for the SRT ! I mean I've never even had a ride in an old Hemimobile let alone a new one like yours !! !!!!!

The original MSRP of the 1970-1971 Challenger R/Ts and 'Cudas were about $4,300. The Charger R/Ts were slightly more. Don't we all wish that we could buy a 2008 Challenger SRT for $4,300?

These MOPAR pony cars have really appreciated. Of course the rarer the combination the more value. In watching the Barrett-Jackson auction last week, I was shocked to see a cherry 1971 426 HEMI 'Cuda convertible with shaker hood (not many made in this configuration) sell for $2,000,000 (the 1971 MSRP was less than $6,000). If you had a crystal ball and bought a few of these and warehoused them, you would be a multimillionaire!!

Also, I saw a 1971 340 'Cuda (sublime color) with 77,000 miles (not showroom condition) go for $102,500!
