I would expect the 425 hp version to be in the high thirties 38,000 and up. Most likely to pay upwards of 40, 000 to 45,000. If it goes above 45,000 I will definately go elswhere.
Great; another Challenger for affluent toy collectors to park between
the classic Challenger and the Prowler in their climate-controlled garage.
Castiglione creates the biggest car show hit in decades,
and DCX takes it Niche-market.
wrong, Wrong, WRONG DCX!!!
The whole Pony Car concept is about value cars in sexy clothes;
Cars that Secretaries and returning servicemen and working stiffs can buy,
or parents can buy a kid for graduation. A cooler alternative to a Stratus or
Taurtus or Wimpala, for not much more dough. Muscle versions are the
icing on the cake; but have alwaysbeen theminority, even in 1970.
Ford builds 2-3 value Mustangs for every GT;
and hundreds of GTs for every Cobra; always have, always will.
Classic Challengers?, prolly more 318s built, than all the big blocks combined;
and only a tiny fraction of BBs were 426Hs. If only the highdollar Hemis were offered,
70 would have been the first and last year of production.
Boutique marketing was not a 'sustainable' business model for Prowler,
Thunderbird, Crossfire, SSR, Typhoon/Syclone; i could go on and on;
it is the wrong choice for the hottest concept car of the 21st century.
By niching it to Emptynest Boomers, You're missing the millions of younger buyers you desparately need to hook as domestic -DCX- buyers.
We've got a grand slam hitter here; Let's put an idle plant back to work, building uniquely American Iron!
I agree. There are a lot of young people, myself included, who are sick of the Mustang being the only stinking option for a somewhat affordable domestic sports car. And I don't like the new Camaro concept that much. Everywhere this car goes, it draws a crowd bigger than its containing area can hold. I personally believe this car could take a LARGE part of the Mustang market, if DCX starts doing things right. The closest thing they have right now to a vehicle that will appeal to the younger enthusiest crowd is the Caliber R/T... but it looks like an SUV. Strike one.... It is ATX only... strike two. Maybe the SRT-4 version will redeem itself to a degree. Most younger people would forgive the shortcomings of ATX only on the SRT-8 models... if they only cost about $10k - $15k less. The Viper has a strong following... but how many people can really afford one of them? They want a niche vehicle... they got it right there. Really, the only true affordable enthusiest vehicle that DCX offers right now is the Jeep Wrangler... but I want a sports car.

exactly! you forgot the neon srt-4 though. but if i wanted a turboed car i'd make it go a lot faster than that. plus it's still a neon at heart.

The Neon is gone... my SXT was one of the last ones ever made. You're right though, the SRT-4 Neon was a pretty good vehicle, if I had gotten an SRT-4 instead of an SXT I wouldn't be wanting to get rid of it so badly right now, lol.
Simply because it is a niche vehicle doesn't necessarily mean it will be expensive. There are numerous niche vehicles on the market that are not overpriced. The Challenger may be a niche vehicle simply because of production constraints. I'm confident it will be priced competitively with the Mustang and the Charger. Dodge already has a halo car with the Viper. I don't think the Challenger will fall into that league.

If it becomes a niche vehicle I'm not worried about Chrysler charging $50,000 - $60,000 for it. I'm worried about rich customers offering $20k - $40k above sticker to get one... the same thing is happening with the new Shelby GT500 right now. Though I doubt Challengers will sell for that high above sticker... even $5k - $10 above sticker would put it out of a lot of people's reach.

easy way to get past that is to reserve early. Friends gf got the solistice or wahtever first day it was available for 1000 below msrp. They were jumping 2-5g over msrp the next day for those who didn't reserve.
