If DCX is serious about keeping interest in the Challenger, it should issue meaningful press releases about its current stage of development (e.g., currently completing sheet metal design, conducting EPA tests, conducting crash tests, conducting suspension test track work, etc.). At least that would give us something to talk about until 2008. DCX...are you listening?

Re: Dodge Challenger to be Low Production V8

I read an article in the latest edition of Motor Trend that said DCX will not produce a V6 model of the Challenger because it cannot come within $5k of the Mustang price point. It is mostly attributed to the independent rear suspension and the new Camaro is facing the same issue.

Not only does this create a problem in affording to purchase a new Chally, but the limited volume may also affect the aftermarket offerings.

First, not all insider news is released here and second, MT is incorrect.

Well, I can somewhat empathize with you : but sometimes silence is golden ! Also ,I don't think DCX or any manufacturer [ for that matter] has ever "kept" people up to date by giving tidbits like that . That stuff would be neat to see ,but that's for a TV show called , See How They Do It !!! Remember, DCX did us all a big favor and bumped up the official announcement that they would in fact produce this all-new retroization f the 2006 Dodge Challenger Concept : by at least 2-5 months ! Heck, they even let a few reporters actually drive the Concept ; a multi-million $$ vehicle and took it right out into very public arenas . Plus, The Dodge Boys even built a special ' Stars & Stripes' Challenger : a 392 Hemi S/S Dodge Challenger just for SEMA !

Re: Dodge Challenger to be Low Production V8

Chrysler is notorius for this crap. Always with the price gouging whenever possible. When gas was cheap, we begged for a rear drive V8 coupe. Chrysler never responded. Now when gas is at an all time high, they are shoving V8 rear drivers down our throat. Why not sell cars instead of trying to make us believe the cars they are selling are worth thousands over the sticker price?
I have owned and restored over 40 Mopars in my life, and I had planned to buy a Challenger when they come out. I will not pay a preimum for this car, especially when Chrysler has a glut of unsold cars in inventory. They should be kissing our asses trying to get our money.
Up yours Chrysler, you're just not worth it.

Re: Dodge Challenger to be Low Production V8

I clicked on the DCX blog and could not believe all of the Challenger news! I have been searching for any shred of information for months when I came across your "treasure chest" of news. Thank you!!

I don't think that many readers of this forum bothered to check it out. Some of the exciting news was:

*DCX will be bringing back the retro Plymouth Barracuda design for a "limited historical production run."

*Initial production of the Challenger will begin with 30,000 or possibly 50,000 units at the Brampton plant.

*Following this, 3,000-4,000 SRT8 models will appear and "will sport the next SRT's top Hemi brand hot engine."

*The SRT and SkunkWerks Engineering team is working on a "unique model" above the SRT version. It will "be in line with performance cars north of $80,000 range but be affordable...you are looking at a limited production run about a year or so...this HO model will require a hefty down deposit and adding your name to a waiting list months prior to production."

* A hard folding top convertible version will be offered within 24 months of initial production.

*A myriad of options from power train to optional gearing will follow these variations."

Re: Dodge Challenger to be Low Production V8

With all of this coming down the pike, I wonder if it is better to wait until 2009?

I love the new Challenger, but if DCX is planning a 'Cuda in 2009- that is for me. (I used to own a 1971 'Cuda).
