Post Mustang Wins?

Mustang wins?

Readers voting online (Detroit Free Press poll) overwhelmingly said the Ford Mustang is the best retro-style car done in recent years. The Chevy Camaro was second.

I will argue with your statement, "Dodge Challenger: So close to the original it's more like a fan letter than the proposal for a new car."...Dan Whydra
The new Challenger looks far less like the 1970 Challenger than the new Mustang looks like the 1964 1/2 . And, not only is the shape of the new concept far more of a "caricature" of the original than a copy, the underpinnings are different enough, in design, technology and the hardware, as to make them incomparable. By comparison, the Mustang is far closer to its origins, and while updated nicely inside, its mechanicals are hardly state-of-the-art.

Re: Mustang Wins?

Hate to admit it but the Mustang does win, it's not even close, after all it has no competition. No one knows with any certainty what the Challenger or Camaro will be like in their final form or even if they will be produced at all.
Now every Mustang that is sold represents a potential lost customer for Dodge and Chevolet. If they delay too long announcing the market becomes smaller and they are closer to the day when those customers move on to the next hot vehicle. DCX needs to announce very soon for their own good.

Unhappy Re: Mustang Wins?

Which retro cars were done well?
  • Number of votes cast: 442
  • The Camaro should not be on the list if the Challenger isn't. The Charger is far from retro, thats been well documented.

Re: Mustang Wins?

Ok, 1st off, Camaro is still a concept, and Charger isn't retro. I think the new Mustang resembles closer to a 67-68 Mustang.

Anyways. Mustang is a good retro design, and So is Challenger. They seem to think that the Mustang is an exact replica of the old car and the Challenger isn't? I think they are both made to look like the old ones right? So who cares. I love the new Challenger and the new Mustang, Retro or No Go

Re: Mustang Wins?

All I have to say after seeing that photo of the Old Challenger and new side by side is that my fears of the new Challenger being a monster sized car were not unwaranted! That thing makes that 70 look like a two seat sports car! The front looks three feet tall. Way to go DCX! The "09" Challenger SUV.

Re: Mustang Wins?

It is a monster isn't it? Big, blocky and not smooth or subtle at all. Hopefully that will change some to be more like the original. Oh well, that is if they ever decide to make it.

Re: Mustang Wins?

I think the designers at DCX were a little wrong and alot arrogant when they said they corrected all of the styling flaws of the original! I will take all of the design flaws of my 70 model over that too tall and large tank!

Re: Mustang Wins?

I am not bashing the car so much disappointed at the games DCX are playing with it, will we build it or not, what weight will it be ect., stuff like that. And upon closer look at the concept next to the convertible some things that weren't evident at first are pretty clear now. The concept has very little of the sleekness of the original and is just too massive and tall. My opinion of course.

I agree!! And after seeing the new challenger sitting next to the old one,...it needs too loose the rapper 20 some inch wheels and be lowered to the ground,..the dang thing looks like a 4x4 sitting next to the old one!!
