Very little is made in the USA because of high labor costs.

Here is the new emblem for the "made in Mexico" Hemi:

They say Hemi, but not which one, so I would bet it'll be a 5.7 at first and SRT later with 6.1.

From everything that has been written, it seems that DCX will initially market the 2008 Challenger as a limited production (i.e., 30,000 units), high- performance model with a Viper 6-speed manual at a cost of $40,000+. I expect, however, that an automatic (and other options) will be available for the 2009 model to broaden the Challenger's appeal (and increase sales).

This may not be a bad thing (other than the wait) for buyers who prefer automatics. The SRT Charger (6.1 Hemi) owners have been having a lot of trouble with their autostick (computerized) transmissions. For example, from a standing start at wot, the transmission will shift at 3,200 rpm (to protect the engine) even though the car is not moving (spinning wheels). This causes a major bog off the line because the car is in 2nd gear when it hooks up. The SRT engineers are working on a fix.

Re: Production Challenger will be revealed 1 day from today.

I found this interesting bit of information on a link from Dodge's site:

Challenger content received a total of 1.5 million visits on the Dodge.com Web site in 2006 and 20,000 potential customers have asked the company for more product information regarding the car.

The fugly Avenger is going to be a high-volume, mass-produced vehicle. It's a "bottom-line" vehicle going to the mass market of car buyers. People who basically just want something that's riding on 4 tires and has the room and features they want. And it basically is a re-skin of the Sebring.

The Challenger is (at least for the first year, as we're led to believe) a low-volume "specialty" vehicle. It's also not a direct re-skin of anything existing, since they're shorening the 300/Charger wheelbase, etc.

As much as I'd like the car faster, I'd much rather them actually take some time in the engineering of the thing rather than rush it to market just to get some sales. The same people who complain about the wait are the same ones who would be most vocal about any little thing that was wrong with the car.

Besides, if they have ANY hope of the Challenger putting any kind of dent into the Mustang sales, it better be a good machine. Mustangs have been being built consistently for a LONG, LONG time and they have a fiercely loyal fan base. If DCX builds a turd (on any level, be it design/engine/craftsmanship), it's simply going to sit on dealer lots.

They can pay millions in advertising, but nothing sells or destroys a product like word of mouth. If it sucks, EVERYONE will know. Quickly.

Well said. I couldn't agree more!

Like the old saying goes, "Good things come to those who wait."
