Re: Production Challenger will be revealed 1 day from today.
Here is an email I got from Dodge today.
Dear Barry: Thank you for your recent email regarding the 2008 Dodge Challenger. The all-new Dodge Challenger will make its debut as a 2008 model, in the 2008 calendar-year. True to both its historical and modern concept car roots, the 2008 Dodge Challenger will be offered as a two-door, HEMI V-8 powered, manual-transmission, and rear-drive coupe. DaimlerChrysler has yet to announce the pricing and product specifications for the 2008 Dodge Challenger. More information should become available to us as well as being posted on Dodge.com closer to the official release date of the Challenger. We encourage you to stay in contact with us at Dodge.com and your local Dodge dealership for future updates. For more information on the all new Dodge Challenger, please visit: http://www.dodge.com/en/challenger/index.html Please feel free to use the link provided below to sign up for the latest information from the Dodge brand. Privacy http://www.daimlerchrysler.com/disclaimer/index.html Renee Senior Staff Representative Dodge Product Information Center They say Hemi, but not which one, so I would bet it'll be a 5.7 at first and SRT later with 6.1. |

Re: Production Challenger will be revealed 1 day from today.
I found this interesting bit of information on a link from Dodge's site:
Challenger content received a total of 1.5 million visits on the Dodge.com Web site in 2006 and 20,000 potential customers have asked the company for more product information regarding the car. |

The Challenger is (at least for the first year, as we're led to believe) a low-volume "specialty" vehicle. It's also not a direct re-skin of anything existing, since they're shorening the 300/Charger wheelbase, etc. As much as I'd like the car faster, I'd much rather them actually take some time in the engineering of the thing rather than rush it to market just to get some sales. The same people who complain about the wait are the same ones who would be most vocal about any little thing that was wrong with the car. Besides, if they have ANY hope of the Challenger putting any kind of dent into the Mustang sales, it better be a good machine. Mustangs have been being built consistently for a LONG, LONG time and they have a fiercely loyal fan base. If DCX builds a turd (on any level, be it design/engine/craftsmanship), it's simply going to sit on dealer lots. They can pay millions in advertising, but nothing sells or destroys a product like word of mouth. If it sucks, EVERYONE will know. Quickly.
