I personally think there is no comparison the Camaro looks like a clown car. By the time the Camaro comes out forget it..It will be too late I think dodge should have rolled out the challenger back when the magnum came out then they could have really hit ford where it hurts. My gut feeling is the market is a niche market that shrinks weekly as more and more have no cash to spend. This may be a real problem for the big three however I will support Dodges efforts to bring us one of the coolest cars to hit Detroit in decades.. Too each there own .. |

Re: REPORT: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 not sold out, but bring your wallet
![]() All the comments being posted are effin HILARIOUS! I've always found it funny when people complain about a business making a profit when the demand is there! What's especially funny is that for the most part dealers will negotiate on almost ANY vehicle.... Hence MSRP! MSRP = manufacturer's SUGGESTED retail price! This same MSRP is what allows you maggots to get a discount until dealers start dropping like flies! And to whomever posted the "that's why people buy Camrys/Accords".... LAUGHABLE! Yeah.... And I like to compare a Dodge Ram 3500 Diesel Quad-cab 4X4 with a dump bed and snow-plow package to a Dodge Dakota 4X2 regular cab! Sure... there just like each other... only different! A Camry buyer or an Accord buyer is a COMPLETELY different buyer than a SRT-8 Challenger buyer! Challenger is a halo vehicle, plain and simple... GET OVER IT! It is NOT a conservative econo-box. You will have your chance one day at getting a lower price so quit complaining about the markets willingness to pay a premium at vehicle inception.... especially when the vehicle has garnered as much fan-fare as Challenger! To the people complaining...... There's really only one of two issues you're dealing with.... 1. Too cheap to pony up at inception. 2. Unable to afford at inception. Figure out which one it is, move on, and stop hating on those that can/will afford the car and the dealerships! ![]() p.s. The dealerships that agreed on a price, in writing, and took a deposit then pulled their offer off the table upon realizing the greater potential... That's WRONG. I don't agree with that... For the rest though... Good for them! And to clarify... A vehicle with a VON does NOT mean it will be built. A dealer can order 50 and get VONS for all, however, the allocation may only allow 4.... Guess what... You don't have a true order! That's NOT the dealer's fault! Last edited by Vinny Fins : 03-18-2008 at 08:13 AM. |

Re: REPORT: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 not sold out, but bring your wallet
Sorry to upset you Vinny but when the Challenger first came out it was not a "halo" car. I thought the BIG 3 was into making alot of money by selling alot of vehicles. Ford has made pretty good money selling several hundred thousand Mustangs, Dodge made alot of money on most Mopar fans with the Durango, 300c, Ram etc. Those were NOT a "halo" car and the company made profits from these vehicles.
Let me be clear that we want Chrysler to be profitable and hope they will be around for many years. However it is difficult for them compete against Toyota, Nissan & Honda as they are getting millions of people behind the wheels of their brands. We also want the dealerships to make money, but we would like to be able to get the vehicles we ordered and not have them sold out from under us. Many of the people here have gotten calls from their dealerships trying to take their ordered cars for them to sell to others. Chrysler should learn from some mistakes from Ford when they came out with the Thunderbird. They only made a limited quantity the first year and made the car not as attainable for most customers. Thus those customers bought another brand. By the way notice how Ford did not make the same mistake twice with the Mustang. We will all get over it when the cars arrive, our choices will be simple. A. The dealership takes the ordered car and sells it to someone else. B. They have our cars we ordered ready to buy at the agreed price. C. They tack on a hefty AMT to the car and we still buy it, or we walk away. |

Re: REPORT: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 not sold out, but bring your wallet
^
You're absolutely right jptx. I was never arguing the Challenger's weight on the market when it arrived, late might I add, for the '70 model year. When DCX first decided to go ahead with this project it wasn't then either... Things being what they are, it now is a "halo" car! This is now a vehicle that is classified in the category of being an "aspiratonal" car. Kids, teens, adults...... They'll aspire to own the top of the line Challenger. There's no arguing that! They will do what they can to afford the car. The people that can already afford the car, and the premium over sticker, will also own the car... Only they'll own it first! This is not a vehicle that will follow the rule of "planned obsolescence". It will not be rebodied or freshened before it's useful life expectancy is over. It will remain the same until it's gets some wildly outlandish future-modern interpretation of what a Challenger is or the "green-machine", as I like to call the green lobbyists, destroy the muscle car market altogether! And unfortunately for all of us that love brute, gut-wrenching, foot in the ass speed, that day is coming. This car is going to be a last hoorah of sorts. Count on that! Aspire to own it in the mean time and don't worry... In the next 2-3 years, or maybe sooner, Challenger's strangle-hold on the modern vision of greatness past will fade and the prices will drop. And again.... to reiterate! I said in my first post I don't agree with the dealerships that are yanking deals after agreeing on a price and taking deposits! And no.... people do NOT want dealers making money! Or shall I say "stealers", as most refer to them! Oh... and the T-Bird was a turd, plain and simple! That was just a BEAUTIFUL marketing campaign gone awry once the vehicle actually hit the street! Last edited by Vinny Fins : 03-19-2008 at 01:29 PM. |

You are right Vinny, the Tbird was a turd. I think everyone in here all want Dodge and the Challenger to be a huge success and we all want to see ourselves in them soon.
It is promising to see the intro for the R/T and SE and what is coming down the pipe. Once they get these babies in our hands we will be the best advertisement to show off some Pure American Muscle. (wonderfully made by our great friends in Canada) |

Re: REPORT: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 not sold out, but bring your wallet
Count on a great accessories list to chose goodies from also, forged crank, cam, ported heads, exhaust upgrade the list is nice and full of hopefully factory installed items and just not dealer install bolt on at delivery.
Boy was the t- bird the t- turd of the century or what. What a poor roll out of that vehicle I remember well been is one like it if I was retarded and blind..Not as disappointing as the charger and the gto,but damn close. Its been a damn long time coming hasn't it and I'm hoping this car will stand up to all of the hype. Check out allpar.com they have massive amounts of info there on the new rt and SE. Cant wait till may Last edited by NOTSURE : 03-23-2008 at 12:04 AM. |

Perhaps I should become a Reggie Jackson who was buying all them rare Camaros when everyone was telling him he was crazy to do so back in the mid-'70's , if only I could have a big storage space for them - I would ! It's a cycle that keeps coming back every 10 years - cars go high popularity then go down , then go back up , then go back down - one only has to look back at each decades past . The future looks very uncertain and scary , with many's opinion at the extreme not unlike Vinny's when compared to the '74 crisis and how people saw the future - it's a same paralel at the core just with different crust . Things that make you go hmmmm I personally want to hang on to my Challenger and will do so , set myself up to keep it by paying dirt cheap from a dealer new with no purchase financing interest at all (0% just like my Mazda6) and I will pay it in 5 years (a drop of water in a lifetime) ,then I will be on the lookout for special very special Chally selling at bargain basement pricing from owners and probably start collecting them heheheh .... and I'm sure I can almost guarantee it - I'm not the only one thinking and foreseeing like so
