REPORT: 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8 not sold out, but bring your wallet

If you're still jonesing for a 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8, there may still be time to buy one. Frank Klegon, VP of product development for Chrysler, told Kicking Tires at the Chicago Auto Show this week that 4,300 Challengers have been sold so far. We take that to be the number of folks who have advanced beyond putting down a deposit and actually proceeded to buy the cars.

Klegon also revealed that an additional 10,000 orders have been placed by dealers for the 2008 Dodge Challenger SRT8. Since only 6,400 will be built for the 2008 model year, some simple math tells us that there are 2,100 Challengers headed to dealerships with no customer name on the order. Dealers will no doubt find a use for them as display vehicles if they're not sold (unlikely), but expect to pay a premium for absconding with a dealership's number one window dressing.

Kicking Tires also reports that 2009 Challengers will be available with a 380-hp, 5.7L HEMI V8 sporting cylinder deactivation technology, which we may see at the New York Auto Show in late March. A base model with a V6, however, seems unlikely to appear from what we hear.

Those are 2008 Challengers with the "dealer name on the order" instead of a customer..... actually a additional 10,000 orders have been placed, per that article.

To say they are not sold out is very deceiving.

What about the ones that are coming in with the person who ordered it. What kind of premium are they going to have to pay?
The dealership that I ordered mine from was suggesting the thought that my vehicle would go to the highest bid.
It would be great if I could have my order sent to another dealer and purchase it from them.

Anyone have any ideas there?

Yeah, I have a family member who is a general manger of a large Texas dealership and he is saying the same thing. He says two customers have "offered" him 90K. Whatever, I'll jsut wait for the 09's. Sooner or later the dealers are gonna be in the same boat they are with the chargers.

The dealership I will be getting mine from here in Dallas, sold me mine for only 1K over sticker, as that was my deposit money. I was told I would receive the second black SRT8 received. They have 1 black, and two silver that were unclaimed with deposits yet. No mentions of paying more to me. This will be the 9th car I have bought there and they are great to work with.

Just an update the back-peddeling began today on my car order. I am now not being promised the 2nd car as first stated and put in writing. Is there a way to get the dealers build information and to track my car's VEN and delivery? I really want to know when it comes in to start pushing my contract?

before I spent 60K on the Challenger I ordered, I would tell the dealer to stick it where the sun don't shine, and spend an additional 10-15k and buy a new Z06 Vette!!
