Post Three plants in running to make Dodge Challenger

Three plants in running to make Dodge Challenger

~ Brampton, Ont. factory a front-runner as it already builds stablemates 300 and Magnum ~

DAIMLER-CHRYSLER, which is resurrecting the Dodge Challenger for production in 2008, says three of its assembly plants are in the running to make the vehicle and that its Brampton, Ont., facility is not a shoo-in.

Company executives unveiled the Challenger at a flashy event in a mall parking lot in Daytona Beach, Fla., before the Pepsi 400 NASCAR race. Chrysler officials would not give projected sales figures for the vehicle but analysts say they expect a target of 30,000 vehicles a year.

DC's Brampton plant is the logical place to build the car because it will be based on the same LX platform as the Dodge Charger, Magnum and Chrysler 300 models, which are already built there. But that's no guarantee for the Ontario factory, Eric Ridenour, Chrysler's chief operating officer, said.

"We're looking at the competitiveness of our plants, who wants it bad enough," he said.

Chrysler says the Challenger will feature the long hood, short deck, wide stance and two-door coupe-body style that distinguished the iconic Challengers of old. It will compete with Ford's Mustang.

General Motors has not yet formally announced whether it will revive the Camaro. -- CanWest News Service

Well,I'm not sure if that'll help or hurt sales of the Challenger or its price ,but I'm just wondering where the 100,000 will fit in ? I mean, just about every carlot/dealer has its lots "full to the gills ",half of people's garages are also chocked full and our highways/bi-ways are overcrowded too ! Of course America is large so maybe a few here and there ! Also, it's in comparable with today's costs, but I believe there were 8 factories making the '70's Challengers !

Yeah ,I agree....see that's what I suggested awhile back in a thread [ maybe the 'Brampton - 30,000one ? ] like say have one for just the SRT 8s or special models...one for say 5.7 L...maybe have one for certain colors and the other for 70's retro or similar colors ...oh darn it I'm just not on the inside : DCX...to direct this whole operation....I think Dr. Z might want to employ quite a bit of us Challengertalk.comers.ekool as Commandor . ..like Burningman should be a ' shew in',,, Mr. D.J. ..heck he has color charts and other info, Everret too ... make Vanishing Point in charge of the line making those White Beasts !!! I know I'm forgeting a few more .
