There has been much speculation over the past year about the status of the Dodge Hornet, however, one thing is clear: Now is the time. As gas prices rise and the trend seems to move towards smaller vehicles the need only becomes greater. The Dodge Hornet is an aggressive looking concept car that is rumored to powered by a Nissan sourced 4 cylinder engine. As SRT fans, we can only hope that after the first year of production that Dodge will consider releasing a turbocharged version as the Dodge Hornet SRT4.
We think production is likely, and we'd like to be able to create some discussions about the vehicle and have created the Dodge Hornet Forum for just this purpose. As we all know, Dodge pays close attention to their customer base and to what happens on the forums... so let your voice be heard, express your opinions on the vehicle and help shape its' future.
Be sure to stop and visit the site, register and claim your low member # so you can brag about it once the car actually hits the streets. You'll be able to claim your OG status
agreed... for its size, it looks real bold... Dodge is pretty good at bringing concepts to reality without much compromise... it will be interesting to see how the Hornet turns out!
as for the post title "Is it time for the Dodge Hornet?", I think it is definitely something Dodge needs. Hopefully the Hornet will improve their CAFE averages so we will continue to see more SRT V8's!

Looks like they wil lbe going after the Mini Cooper ...Nice ride!
To be able to confess the people of it over the Mini Cooper, it needs to be as good and as stylish as the Cooper.
1- the interior is sweet and looks good so they need to keep it but I don't see the seats going into the production version
2- the headlights and the taillights are ugly.
3- the design in general looks suitable for the SRT vesrion with more aggressive hood scoop so they need to work on a good looking SE and R/T models
4- the Mini Cooper is the best in class regarding performance and if it were to use the Tiida/Versa platform I guess it's gonna use the 1.8L engine which is good for 9sec run to the 60mph and this is on level with the standard Mini Cooper while the Cooper S is reaching 60mph in the mid-6sec and the JCW might be reach the 60mph in a shorter time. So, the Hornet needs other engines more powerful than the 1.8L.
I hope it's the time for the Hornet and the Demon.

Dont think going after the Mini is a game winner unless you are planning to offer a Mini'ish car for $10,000 less money to those that like the Mini and find it out of their price range.
Even though the current Mini is a far cry from the original, it is a cult classic that lives on in a very well executed car. I have an 06 purple cooper s which is just fun to take on the twisty roads. I used to have a BMW cycle and my Mini I call my motocycle with AC and a built in helmet.
I will keep my Mini even when the Challenger RT,,, the Challenger will fill my need for the brute torque of my youth and the mini is my zip around toy.

The Hornet's purpose isn't solely to go after the Mini. Mini will always have their buyers no matter what vehicle comes out. The purpose of the Hornet is to offer Dodge fans a small car with decent gas mileage. Something they currently do not have. They also hope to offer decent performance at the same time. The Hornet will not be built by Dodge. It will be outsourced to either the Chinese or Nissan.
