2011 SRT8 7K miles - no sound

Hello All,

My 2011 SRT8 has no sound. I have uconnect and navigation and the Kicker amp mounted in the trunk the driver's side inner rear fender. All functionality of the radio/hard drive/navigation seems to work on the screen but no sound is emitted through the speakers. I used a test light and checked all the fuses in the trunk. After pulling several and unplugging and replugging the connection on the subwoofer, it worked for about 5 seconds. Then, no sound again. Are there things I can check to pinpoint the problem or is this something that needs to go to a dealership? She has just over 7,000 miles and is babied... Is this possibly something that a firmware upgrade might fix?

Any help is greatly appreciated...

Are you the original owner? I'm just asking so you know its history and curious if it had any aftermarket audio in it. I don't really have any sugestions other than making sure the factory amp harness is plugged in which is next to the steering column on the left side or pull the radio and make sure the harness is fully seated and plugged in. What part of Texas are you in?

OK, I checked the uconnect site and plugged my VIN#. It says there are no updates.

I called them, they told me I could do a soft reset by holding the voice command button and phone button on the wheel for sixty seconds with car running and then shutting it off and keeping the door open for 60 seconds. It did not make the system work however....

But, interestingly enough, I can lock and unlock the doors with the FOB, then about 1 out of 5 times, start the car, and the stereo will come on for about 5-6 seconds and then go off again...

After, the soft reset, I also got a low battery warning on FOB, and also a HDD 58 RKE Battery another time on the dash display. With the FOB NOT at 100% battery, are there any reasons the system would not have sound output associated with this... or the fact that tire pressure is low?

Thanks Again...

Hi TXhulk,

It sounds like you've already done all the DIY troubleshooting that I know of. I would recommend taking your vehicle to a Dodge dealership, they can further assist in diagnosing your vehicle. Let me know if you have any additional questions!

OK, I took my car to the closest dealership to me in Tyler, TX. They told me it was $154 to diagnose. I left it overnight and received a call back today that I need a new radio for $1150. :surprise:

Is this for real? Anyone have a suggestion?

Due to the cost of a factory replacement, I bought a new Pioneer Radio AVH-X4800BS with 7" screen. I scheduled the install in Tyler, TX at BestBuy as they had all the connectors and installation parts required for the replacement to work with my steering wheel controls.

The new radio was installed and looks nice. However, I have the same issue as before. The radio will only play for a few seconds after a battery disconnect or after disconnecting the kicker amplifier #05035022AE and re-plugging the connectors. This is the same thing that was happening before I purchased a new radio. The odds are that there is nothing wrong with my factory 730N radio. The BestBuy tech tested power wires to the amp plugs and everything checked out at 13.6 when running. It appears that the amplifier is the likely issue. :mofo:

Any recommendations on how I should approach the dealership. I paid them $154 to point me in the wrong direction... I even specifically asked if they verified that the amp was good. I spent $265 on a new radio and $230 on additional parts and labor for a grand total of $649 out of pocket. Plus, I added 300 miles to my 7,000 mile vehicle, gas for my vehicle and the second vehicle required to bring me back when I dropped it with them, and several hours of two people's time.

Should I ask just for my $154 back? Plus gas? Should I ask for a replacement amp? I'm super frustrated and I am trying to remain calm. What is a fair approach?

Scott, it ended up being the amplifier.

The radio had full functionality but no sound was emitting from the speakers. If I disconnected the amp harness from the amp (below steering wheel area), the first time I would turn on the ignition, it would play for about 5 seconds... I hope that helps!

Thanks Troy, I've done all the tricks like you except take it into the dealer. My 730N system is doing the exact same thing yours did. The Amp has been the prime suspect but it's great to hear conformation from a fellow owner. Like yours my car sits 7 moths of the year only 9K miles on it now.

I'll post a follow up when the amp is replaced thanks again, hope we can save others some hunt time :)
