No idea but my take would be no, if it's just gradually slowing you down it would not as there is no reason for brake lights there. But if it has to slow you down quicker and actually apply the brakes then yes they will probably and should come on. Some of these ACC systems will bring you to a complete stop in bumper to bumper traffic then get you going again, would definitely need brake lights in that situation.
It will slow you down very quickly if need be. They must come on though. To design something that will slow down that quickly and not warn anyone behind you would be just asking for a lawsuit wouldn't it? I'm not sure how slow it will go though. The dealership said 25mph, but I've had it go as low as 13mph and then eventually all the way back to the set speed at 70. Pretty cool feature when traveling
Keep using it and report back. Sounds like a cool option. I'm curious if it will actually stop the car then start it moving again like some other ACC cars. And I would say that dealer is clueless, 25 mph sounds like standard cruise control and I bet most over there don't know the difference.
I'm pretty sure the 2015 charger can come to a full stop. I heard it say it in the instruction video for the charger. I would it assume it doesn't in the challenger, but maybe they just forgot to mention it.
I guess I could plug in the disk and look for a video. I gotta say, it's hard to sit there and not hit the brake when it slows down that much in traffic! All the way to zero and then back to speed would be pretty cool though. I'll keep playing around with it and post back. I'm just going to guess that if it will go as low as 13mph and back up to speed, down to zero shouldn't be much different. Right?
This Charger video mentions the system will disconnect if the vehicle ahead comes to a complete stop. Also talks about ACC with Stop feature as if that is something extra, question is does the Challenger have ACC with Stop? I called a few dealers and no one has a clue what I am asking them, namely will this system bring the car to a stop in bumper to bumper traffic then get it going again.
The ACC does not stop the vehicle. If you keep off the pedals, it will eventually switch into the Forward Collision Warning screen flashing message with accompanied audible beeping.
Probably depends on decel vs braking. If brakes are applied, per NHITSA standards (as well as state law), the lights have to come on. Not to mention liability issues for manufacturer if they didn't. Aside from that, why have a system to avoid rear ending someone that has the huge potential to cause someone to rear end you, because no brake warning lamp come on?
I wondered that myself and then realized, for reasons already mentioned, that could be a big problem applying brakes with no brake indication. It's gotta come on I think. Maybe someone could round up a couple of friends to test it. One in front, then the Challenger with ACC, then someone to spot the brake lights out back all while on a hwy.
my 15 Challenger will brake me all the way down to 15mph and then give me an audible and the screen says ACC has been canceled. My 14 Durango will take me all the way down to a stop then gives me an audible and the screen says ACC is canceled. I am a little bummed that my challenger doesnt have the ACC with the stop feature that my year older Durango has.
Still don't know about the brake lights but I sure hope they came on in the situation I got into today.
Went by the dealer and they let me drive a new R/T Plus. I turned on the cruise and the collision warning and set the cruise at 55 mph. A car passed me going about 65 on the left and then got up about 200 feet up the road. I then set the cruise at about 75 mph and the car took off. As I got about 50 feet behind him in the middle lane (he was still in the left lane) I made a hard lane change and got right behind him. The car immediately started beeping loudly, a bright red BRAKE appeared on the display and the car by itself applied the brakes very hard to avoid a collision. It was amazing. I had my foot covering the brake just in case but I didn't need to do a thing. Gotta say it was crazy to do that but a lot of fun too. This system will no doubt save somebody's butt one day.
Anyway, the R/T Plus with STP and 8 speed automatic was one hell of a nice ride. That transmission sure shifts nice and put your foot down and she will really fly. Was dead set on another M6 but after the drive today will have to seriously consider the A8 automatic.
I had adaptive cruise control on a few infinity cars 10 years ago. They had a feature where you could set the distance that you followed the car in front of you. They had 3 different settings. Do the Challengers have a feature like that on the adaptive cruise control?
