Been lurking since I picked up my new 2012 R/T nearly 2 weeks ago, have picked up a bunch of great information, but still have a question.
My car came with the REC Uconnect radio with Sirius, I am an older guy, so it sounds fine to me, its just has a bland appearance. I have found an RBZ (Sirius, no nav) radio from a 2010 Challenger for under $500 that I would like to use. So, my questions:
Is this plug and play?
Is $450 too much for this unit used?
Usually radios have theft protection features. It is very likely that newly installed radio will require a trip to the dealer to unlock it. I do not know if connectors are the same.
The Mopar book as this radio available for sale on all Challenger models. The part number for the RBZ radio from Mopar is 05064677AH and it does state the following:
Requires Uconnect Phone. Radio without integrated SIRIUS Satellite Radio, requires satellite receiver/antenna kit, installation kit and satellite radio service subscription. Radio with integrated SIRIUS Satellite Radio requires antenna kit and satellite radio service subscription.
Thanks for all the information.
I have done a bit more research, and the part number for the 2010 that I am looking at actually comes back as a Dodge Ram radio, which is a high speed bus unit where the Challenger requires a low speed bus. It doesnt seem likely that the same part number would be on 2 different units, or is it possible? I have what I believe to be a 2012 Challenger part number, 05064677AH, but no idea if any other numbers will work.
Sheesh, all I wanted was a better looking radio in my dash, now I have a headache!
If you're interested, I have a contact that has a 2012 Low Speed RBZ radio. It's never been installed and the security code is set from the factory as 0000. It was used on a test bench for some Uconnct testing. It would be a simple plug N play install. He's asking for $450 (+) shipping. The shipping would be whatever USPS would charge, $15 - $20.
Can anyone tell me how much of a factor the part numbers play here? I am finding several 430RBZ radios that are supposed to be from 2012 models, all low speed BUS, all are supposed to be compatible in a 2012 Challenger, but the part numbers are all different.
The only part number you should focus on is the Mopar Part # for the Challenger Radio which is 05064676AH. Not sure why you're finding more than 1 or 2 part#s.
It's just known that challengers are low speed. When I was installing my lockpick I managed to configure it for high speed. When I turned the ignition on - all weird things started happening like the car would not start etc. So you will know that you have wrong speed device on the bus.
I found a list online that told me which vehicles used the high speed bus and which were low. All I can remember right off is that the Challenger is low and the Dodge Ram is high.
As for radios, I never priced the 430n because I dont need nav, but I bought a new 430 RBZ from a member here for $425 shipped.
