The long rumored 6.2L Supercharged Hemi, nicknamed "HellCat" will debut in the Summer of 2014 for the 2015MY. It will be based on the 6.1 Hemi - with a possible Aluminum Block - and displacing approximately 375 CID (6.2L). Horsepower output will be around 600 HP plus/minus with cylinder head technology developed for/and used on the current 392 Hemi due to its excellent flow numbers will be applied.
Boost (psi) to deliver the approximate 600 HP - plus/minus - stock would be in the 9 to 15 psi range to deliver the horsepower/torque numbers. Currently Chevy/Cadilliac uses 9psi to develop 580 HP in their 6.2L SC V8s and the Ford 5.8 SC V8 uses 15 psi to deliver 662 HP in their 2013-14 GT500. Expect 9 or 10 psi for stock boost giving the aftermarket plenty of room to mod up to 15 psi. A modded "HellCat" should out-horsepower the 5.8 SC GT500 due to the fact that you cannot change both pulleys - like on the 5.4 (2007-12) models. Even Shelby SuperSnakes (2013MY) with the Stage 1 setup (5.8) doesn't touch the Ford factory setup. The entire SC is replaced to deliver 850 HP (Stage 2).
Internals will be highly upgraded, as well as the remainder of the drivetrain to handle the horsepower/torque requirements. Direct Injection and other measures will be applied to deliver MPG, with possible Rear End Gear Ratios being lowered as well for 6speed cars from 3.92 to 3.64 range.
For transmissions - a 6speed Manual and either a 5 or 8 speed (still possible) for automatic cars. Nothing yet is totally confirmed on the remainder of the drivetrain upgrade. However, look for the SRT 6.2 SC "HellCat" package to be in the same ballpark as the ZL1 and GT500.
Below is a photo that has recently been circulating around automotive circles to date.
Additional Info .... The Hellcat SC 6.2 Hemi Package will include Beefier Rear tire/wheel package ... 20x10.5-inch w/205 or 305 wide rubber depending on the Anti-Spin diff Final Drive Ratio. The tires will be similar to the GT500 with Goodyear F1 Ultra Supercar G2 compound and tread pattern. The package will also include the 2012MY intro 2- and 3-mode Suspension, plus 2013MY Launch Control
There should be approximately a 150 lb. weight reduction on a SRT with the new "LA" floorpan (6speed Manual/8speed Auto) and Aluminum Maserati/Alfa fashioned sportier suspension replacing the Mercedes suspension.
Also, a new Steering Column which means a NEW Styled Steering Wheel.
No quarrel with the engine but I've heard from a good source that Dodge is going to take 8 inches off the car in order to get it to look more Camaro/Mustang appropriate. I'm thinking useable trunk space and back seat leg room will be sacrificed, what do you think?
I don't know about whether they'll make changes or not, but if they do shorten the car 8 inches, I'm sure that they could remove "at least" 12 inches of dash length. I swear, if the dashes were any longer, I don't think I'd be able to reach the bottom of the inside windshield to clean it...
From my understanding, engine production starts in May and the '14 productions start around July. So I would say the 6.2L Hellcat should be hitting dealers around late fall early winter '13 -- IMHO of course.
Both ZL1 and GT500 convertibles on display at the Chicago Auto Show stickered for 65K. I would imagine the 6.2L Hellcat will start at 55K... Also, the GT500 and ZL1's interiors did not look or feel like that of 65K car. The Camaro's drivers door rattled, and the inner panel actually moved around as I slammed the door. It felt not much better than my cousins 1978 Trans Am. LOL The Challenger is in desperate need of an interior redo. When you look at every other Chrysler product from the Dart to the Grand Cherokee, our interiors are pre bankruptcy crap. They do not belong in a 50K SRT product anymore. I sincerely hope this gets addressed next year with the new Hellcat. If they try to just stick a 6.2L in the Challenger as is and charge like 60K for it, count me out... I'll just buy another 2010 SRT in B5 for the wife. LOL

They might sticker for $65 and $55 large, but I'll bet that the GT500 will be priced well over $70,000 and the ZL1 at about $65,000, on dealer lots. You can bet the SRT version will be at least $60,000 and dealers selling them for in the upper $60's. Too rich for my blood (and pocketbook!!)
I am surprised they didn't redo the interior back in 2011 - because it doesn't even need much. Give it the same gauges as the Charger R/T and SRT8 plus a nice insert to go around them (like the Charger) and maybe curve the cluster around the driver for a more fighterjet-like feel (same as now, but curved like a 70 Camaro dash). Put the 8.4" touchscreen in the center along with the dials below it, and put all the traction control, launch control, suspension setting, heated seats, heated wheel buttons in and around the cluster, shifter or center stack.
Add some styling effects to that and voila, new interior that will get rave reviews.
Took out the 392 after a 2 month hiatus...man, what an animal without traction control on. WOW... This hellcat is going to be an absolute thrillride. Gas prices are going up, so I'm gonna get the lower displacement to save money (thats what I tell the wife)
I'm sticking to the same price as before. 65K loaded, high 50s no options.
In all honesty, after the little ride I went for today...I really don't need anymore than that. But, I'll get it anyway. Don't know if 2014 or LA chassis... Probably better wait it out and see what it looks like.
SRT really needs to step up there game here with the Hellcat.. GT500 and ZL1 are out, so they can see their specifications, there is no excuse not to at least match the top pony car contender in this match-up.. If we look at their history, it will come out short of that and we will have more disappointment, just like we did with the latest Viper..

They wont do it, its just too much trouble for them (or so they think). They could crank out 700HP out of that engine running 14PSI...but will they? No...besides, they would have to change their intercooler area so they could get it cooled better. They won't be doing it in the LC challenger, but maybe the LA for 2015... Maybe that will have a bounce in HP. If it comes this year with 600. Possibly 2015 with 640? Who knows... but probably won't get any higher than 600 unless the viper goes up.
I don't like the fact they they are the slowest of the 3, but they also aren't supercharged engines. I absolutely love the 392. Its an animal...but add another 130HP and its a beast. Add another 100 on top of that and its a killer ride... and getting too much for the road. 600-650 HP is the sweet spot for on road driving for the weight of that car. Add more meat to the rears would be something I'd like to see.
For those looking for a Charger style redo of the Challenger dash, it won't happen. It isn't in keeping with the Retro theme of the interior/exterior. Ford didn't exactly redesign their Mustang dash just added newer touches from the 2005-09 models.
Yes, you can look forward to the 8.4 inch Touch Screen, but the Gauge Cluster area will remain the same but with updated Gauges/Control functions Possibly like on the Showcar. You may see similiar Viper like details otherwise with possible more interior color options. That's about it!
All I know is I'm looking forward to this Hellcat as much as anyone. I also like the ZL-1 and GT500. As of right now, as much as I hate to say it, I'd take a ZL-1 coupe. That is the only Camaro that has the performance to match its concept, futuristic styling. Problem with it is, soon a C7 Corvette will be sitting next to it in the showroom for the same money... The GT500 does not have that problem, nor will the Hellcat.
I hope the 6.2 comes in B5, the best color on this car in my opinion so far. Although a Plum Crazy with white stripes would be killer. I will try to get one, what I will do different: Maybe less options, Shaker will be a must if available, no fancy radio - too many issues with mine - just need bluetooth, maybe the automatic (8spd??) if the manual still feels clunky.
I love the Challengers and have owned them since 2009, but if I was to drop over 50k on a vehicle, it would go to the new Stingray. The Stingray is an amazing design with a new interior that looks like it came from a Ferrari or Porsche. The biggest drawback with the Challenger was always the generic looking interior.
Some people like the old school, but to me, throwing today's money for yesterday's look is not something that appeals to me. Getting in the 50K plus range is putting Dodge in pretty tough company. There's a lot of competition out there with better quality.
Pretty much my thoughts. Ive lusted after the Challenger since the concept car finally got one and plan to keep it for a long time. I dont have many miles with it yet as Im overseas, but as you said, when getting into the high 50's low 60's for a car, there are a lot of nice ones out there.
If and when these cars ever come out...they will be way north of 60k. Definitely not in my budget and nor would I plan on taking it in the shorts on trading in my current SRT to do so!!! If someone had to finance one ...You would be looking at closer to 70k depending on the length of the loan and down payment. That's definitely the definition of INSANE!!! lol
Gonna be a hard choice for me between this car if it ever happens and the Stingray. If they shorten the challenger 8 inches, NO DEAL. If I want a short car I'll just get the vette. The look of the Challenger is perfect. dont mess with perfection. Fix the power, leave the outside.
After reading most of the posts in this thread, I have to admit to being astounded by how many wealthy people choose Dodge. There's a lot of money here.
Personally, if I could afford this kind of money for a weekend toy, I'm getting a Cayman S. It isn't as gutwrenchingly powerful, but damn what a fine piece of machinery.

I can tell you right now if the new Hellcat is over 60K, no thanks. I can buy a Corvette with the Z51 package for about the same that will whomp the Challenger in every performance category and have a higher quality interior and new design to boot. I have always hated Corvettes too, but the new one actually makes me consider one. To me the Camaro, Mustang, and Challenger cannot justify a 60K plus price no matter how much horsepower they put in it... Th build quality, interiors, etc. are a joke when you look at other cars in those price ranges. Hate to say it because I still love these cars, but I still think they are overpriced.
I feel the same about the new vette. It does spark some interest. I also feel 60k should be a AMG Mercedes or BMW M Series, not a Chevy, Dodge, or Ford.
60K barely gets you in the door with those (C63 AMG or BMW M3) and is pretty much where these, Chevys and Fords top out. That number seems to be the threshold.
However, with a few more tweaks the American cars will be right beside those in performance / handling for 1/2 the price. The Camaro ZL1 will take out a C63 AMG Black Series already...
A Charger / 300 SRT with this 6.2L will be neck and neck with the M5 and E63 too and those are 100K+
That said, don't get sticker shock at a 60K SRT - just think of what that performance would cost you from a German car....
the new vette does spark interest and will keep an open mind. I may wait until 2015MY to see what comes around. One thing is for sure, good things are on the horizon...its a good time in auto history.
Makes you wonder if we are getting ready to hit another "early 80's suck period".... where HO V8's were making 185hp and that 0-60 time was 8.89 seconds. Yay.
Re:Challenger SRT8 hood design/Shaker hood, pro & Cons etc, I was at a car show this past weekend and happened to see a 1974 Plymouth Cuda. What I noticed about the car car (aside from its great condition) was the rather large dual ram air hood slits it had. In fact they almost looked larger in size then the earlier years (72 on back) model of the same cars.
So what if Dodge made the dual air induction openings say a bit longer & a little wider, would that help? Also would that achieve the same thing the shaker hood mod achieves as well? Me, I like the stock hood from the factory myself, but I realize I might be in the minority here, LOL. Just curious!
I have read that new frame technologies are developing fast. This might be where alot of the savings are. I heared as much as 300 lbs in frame reduction on next ten Camaro.
On the subject of the stock LC Challenger hood. It only looks sorter due to the fact the windshield is lurched (cabforward style) towards the front cutting of the back end styling of the 1970-74 Hood.
Even the modern Shaker is adjusted but looks more correct because of this.
Most of the testing they do in the area is run the cars either from the Mississauga zone office or the Brampton plant back and forth up the 400 towards Barrie for some sort of durability testing. Back in late 2010 when the 2011's were launching you'd see dozens of them doing this.
A dealer last year actually had a 2011 Charger R/T Road and Track for sale as a "Chrysler Canada fleet car" and it was very cheap, like $21,000. Because it had 90,000kms on it, from doing durability testing I assume. No idea how else it would rack up that many KMS in such a short time.
People are dumb. They want the 6.2L for 50k. Give your head a shake. If you cant afford it, quit whinning about it and go buy a civic
Dodge/SRT actually listens to people by bringing the 6.2L and the core models and all I hear is a bunch of spoiled child wanting to pay 20k for an SRT. Come on

This is part of a post I made in a different section. I did a little looking on the autotrader website tonight in my area. With you bring up prices, I thought it would be relevant to your post:
I'm in Canada, so our prices are higher. I can go an build a 2013 392 and it'll cost me $58,000. That pretty much the same price (All in taxes and charges included MSRP was about $48,9 back then) as what mine cost in 2010. A 2013 GT-500 is MSRP'd at $71,900. It was 73,9 a few weeks ago.
So I look at it this way:
2010 SRT Loaded - 425 hp - $37/40 K
2013 SRT loaded - 470 hp - $58k MSRP
2013 GT 500 - 663 hp - $71,9 MSRP
2012 ZL-1 - 570 hp - $60,900 Listed on auto trader my local
2013 ZL-1 - 570 hp - $74,995 Listed on auto trader my local
2014 SRT Loaded Hellcat - ?? hp - ??? $$
If it's lower than 600 hp and gets priced between $65/75K I have to start balancing if it's worth it over my 6.1. In my market, I've seen a 2010 SRT listed for $36,900. There was only 1 mind you. I could do a lot with $25k if the Hellcat see's a $65k price tag. Probably more judging by the ZL1 and GT500's price tags. Haven't thought about taxes either.
