it was bound to happen I heard about another one that was black that hit a deer got the roof, fender, mirror, door and rear quarter... with great power comes greater responsibility big breaks aren't enough...
Don't let governor Cuomo see this. He will try to outlaw them. Assualt cars. Hope the 5 star crash test worthiness worked and no one was seriously hurt.
A few thoughts come to mind about gap insurance. If the owner paid msrp is the insurance co. to pay out that price? Or would they have to pay the mark up we all see for now? (replacement cost).
If the owner paid the typical markup, would the insurance co. be entitled to pay off at the msrp price?
I suspect that if one were to pay for gap insurance, that extra cost should reflect how much money they tossed to be one of the first to crash.:scratchhead:
all the.... " Hellcat insurance was only $200 a year more" is going to change real fast. All the vids I see are Hellcats ripping 120 mph in seconds on streets. I knew this was going to happen ..but not this fast
i'm not saying this was the case but 700hp is not for everyone. I have 3 cars over 1000 hp you have to know how to handle the power. My 16 yearly daughter will drive the cat and she will respect the cat. Should have to take on closed course first.
One good note, with the driver's door open like that, it would appear that the car did a fairly good job of sacrificing itself to protect the occupants. Sure hope nobody was hurt too bad.
As others have said, you have to respect this showroom power level like never before.
It's too bad, but it won't be the last. During the first few years of Viper production, there were typically 3 - 4 Vipers with heavy front end damage at the insurance yards I visit for my job.
Some probably have not experienced a lot of HP,have plenty money to throw around. They think if they can buy it from the dealer everything is safe, and it's fun and games.
700hp and much less is serious buisness, and has to be respected.
Anybody with brains would get use to the car,and slowly get comfortable with it.
If he just had it a few hours as stated, was out hammering it ,then yea,it was not a bright move.
Apparently they took a real wicked curve way too fast. It's reported the tire marks are pretty crazy. The guy took pics of the area and grabbed some momento pieces he found. Ha ha he now has first hellcat high speed wreck trophies.
I remember when insuring my SRT the first time the insurance lady said please as one parent to another don't let your teen son take the car alone, it's too much power for an inexperienced driver. Fortunately these cars do their job in protecting the occupants. Stupid or not I don't want anyone to get hurt or worse, especially a member here.
The Hellcat is too much for even some experienced adults and this sadly isn't going to be the last wreck we see here.
