Watchin' right now... Cool, takin' a 71 Scat Pack Challenger and puttin' in a 2015 Scat Pack Challenger running gear. Hope it all comes together. :wink3:
I know, right? They keep calling it a 71 Scat Pack Challenger over and over again. This show is really obnoxious, but I tolerate it for the cars.
They also say this is a pre production 2015 and are acting like it is something new to them. So I guess this was done even before he had the other pre-prod cars last summer.
In the 70s, there wasn't a "Scat Pack" Challenger. All of the performance models were just called R/Ts.
"Scatpack" (with the angry bumblebee) was a marketing campaign by Dodge to promote its performance cars. Similarly, Plymouth had the "Rapid Transit System." Here are two of the old ads.
While this seems pretty "Bad A$$" it seems to me that they bit off more than they can chew.......................but it is TV, I think that "David Kendig" could have pulled it off much better......................
I agree. I don't really like Gas Monkey because they are only interested in the quick flip, and I don't like the owner because he's a blowhard with no real knowledge of car mechanics.
These guys are reality television second rate fabricators. Kindig is light years ahead of these guys, and would make that 71 Challenger look like it came out of the factory.
Since there was no production Scat Pack Challenger in '71', is there really a '15' Scat Pack Challenger, or is it too just a marketing campaign by Dodge?:slant:

plymouth didn't have the bee for scatpack but they had all their cousin of which i had the 340 demon's cousin, the 340 duster. had a '71 with the torqueflite auto. she was a screaming machine, until the gas embargo & lower octane gas.:wink3:

not to argue but a 340 dodge didn't have better rating than the plymouth, nor the 383's, 426's or 440's. what they did have was better trim & interiors & charged more. the big thing is the plymouth name didn't make it & the dodge name did.
I don't mind the show at all. RR is there to make money. Frankily, sometimes it's best having someone that isn't in love with the product he makes allows him to make more money. Flipping cars is what makes money and if I owned the business, that would be a primary goal after my employees are taken car of.
Either way, I think it is a cool project. Since the '71 wasn't a numbers matching block, I see no issue with them doing this engine swap/resto mod project. If it was a numbers matching and they did this, I would be throwing stuff at my TV in anger. Either way, it's cool to see our giant 6.4L going in that '71.
I'm curious to see how this swap turns out. Personally I hated seeing the 71 chopped up.
Just looked in Wikipedia and saw that purple 71 convertible with white interior. Man that thing is gorgeous.
It's pretty clear that show is sponsored by Dodge. The SP shaker becomes available for order right before their first show of this seasons hits the airways.
Total marketing. I do like watching the show for the cars though.
