Do you think Dodge should find a pleasing solution to the Cell Phone issue?

Happy Monday 392'ers

I found a very workable and inexpensive idea for the vexing problem of "no cell phone holder in the Challenger".

http://www.autozone.com/gps-radar-a...mount-holder/premier-window-mount/397238_0_0/

Twist the flexible wire in a coil so it's about a few inches from base. Put base in cup holder. Voila! it stays away from hands (for shifting), it's maneuverable, and it stays in position due to the base being just slightly smaller then the cup holder diameter.

There ya go - a $10 solution that doesn't attached to vent (ugly), window (worse!) or (dare I say) a permanent mounting on dash - perish the thought!
:notallthere:

If you've found a better solution which doesn't adversely effect the aesthetics of this vehicle - I'm all ears!

The thing I like most about Uconnect is being able to leave my phone in my pocket! I've got a cup-holder mount for an iPad that I use on long trips for navigation (mostly in the wife's Jeep that doesn't have built-in nav), and it has a phone holder adaptor too, but I never use it.

I agree, uconnect makes the phone mostly unnecessary to look at. I seldom look at it, but I cases like yesterday when uconnect nav ran me around In circles looking for restaurant, I quickly accessed Google maps at a light. It's not critical, of course, but a matter of convenience, plus I'd rather not close my door with phone in door cup holder. That's unnecessary force on phone. So far survey is about 50/50. Interesting if they'd make an optional cup holder or phone holder.

This is the second thread I have seen on this. Please people don't take this the wrong way but why are so many totally obsesssed with having their phone permanently attached to them.I am getting the feeling if it could be inserted in your body surgically you would be more than happy to have the operation.

I am sorry but I don't get this obsession with a phone.

First, I'm a techie. I'm not obsessed with phones, I'm obsessed with tech :)

I started the other thread. My problem is possibly close to what you are getting at. I don't really use the phone when I'm in the car, but I do carry it around with me since I need to be semi-reachable due to my job. Also, I have my music on it, take pictures of the kids, etc.

The problem is, if I put it in the arm rest or the door, it's so out of sight, it's out of mind, and I leave it in the car more often than not. My goal was more to have it out of the way, but not out of sight, out of mind when I leave the car.

The uConnect largely renders active phone use unnecessary. I have my phone on me in case I need it, but I hardly ever use it. I recently got a Moto 360 (smart watch) so that I have to use the phone even less. I get a text, I get a call, a quick flick of the wrist to dismiss, and that's way better than having to fish around for a phone.

I hear ya ohten. A lot of people feel as you do. I can respect that. It's not the phone per se, it's the Communication it affords. I have three different e-mails I monitor, one being work. In my line, I have to be able to respond quickly to a perceived emergency. Many customers throughout the world depend on it. Hell, if I was a 9-5 guy working as a welder, machinist or other job that stays there, I'd probably not touch it ever :)

I've tried the vent holder version of the ops suggestion but frankly I hated it. Since my job requires that I wear long sleeve shirts I just get ones with cigarette pockets and keep my HTC one M8 there 100% of the time I'm not on it. The U-connect phone system seems to work well for the phone operation and bluetooth hasn't failed me yet BUT...what about the passenger? My wife uses her purse.
Personally, I don't care for the plain Jane dashboards Dodge put in these cars. But who guys a muscle-car for a dashboard?
And, while I understand ohten's sentiment, some of us are in the sales/service market. I NEED my phone on me or I can't be effective at my job.

I have a 6+. I usually just lay it across both sides of the cupholder if I don't leave it in my pocket. I don't text and drive or use the phone unless I have a call and like others said, its on Uconnect. I have also used the door cupholder if I have a delicious beverage in the center cupholder. I rarely use the cupholder closest to me as I feel it gets in the way of shifting.

I drive the same way Frank! Seems logical to me, and I have the paddle shifters. But, using my method, the phone is actually under your palm and doesn't get in the way at all when angled correctly. Hey, for $10, with a try. Even if, as previous poster stated, for passenger use.

I have an iPhone 6. It fits perfectly in the tethered mesh section on the drivers side of the center console. The phone will Bluetooth the turn by turn navigation through the maps on my phone. Plus the voice dialing is hands free with the Uconnect. For those of you that are tech lovers, the car is designed to be an extension of your phone so that you don't have to actually use your phone while driving. I use an old iPhone as my MP3 player via the USB in the center console. Mainly because I installed an EQ app on the phone. However, this allows me to scroll through and search by song/band/playlist through the 8.4" head unit. Once you adapt to the technology that is in the car, you'll realize the only thing you can't do with an iPhone is text while driving (it can be done with the Siri). This is my first vehicle where I don't look at my phone. Truth be told, my phone stays in my pocket 90% of the time.

You guys crack me up!

So on the drive home today (as I always do) I put my cell phone in the center cup holders in the closest cup but angled towards me (so I can see it) - fits perfectly as the holders have a dip in them.

With my elbow/arm on the arm rest and my hand on the A8 shifter my arm doesn't touch the phone.

Maybe the manual is shorter - but I think you guys are inventing reasons to buy doodads and gadgets.

Dodge did find a pleasing solution to the cell phone. It's called Uconnect. Phone sits in your pocket, Drinks stay in the cupholder. And face it, if phone is mounted where it can be seen, some people will be foolish enough to look at it while driving. Car manufacturers probably deliberately don't install these types of holders because of possible lawsuits.

Mine is in my pocket. I have no need to play with it while driving and the uconnect does anything that I really NEED to do.

Mine comes jin handy at interfaces with my Passport Max radar detector and I run the Escort Live App and Waze to keep up with radar positions and keep my butt out of any tickets but there is more threads on this elsewhere. It also has an alarm on it if I go over 10mph over the speed limit when I run Escort Live.

So for all you guys who don't or want to look at your phone while driving, have you ever used the Waze app? I rarely drive away without it running. Not only does it show "quasi" moment to moment speed traps, but traffic and accidents, stalled vehicles, construction trucks and the occasionally useful pothole location. So stuffing my iPhone 6 in the mesh fully bluetoothed doesn't help me (us Wazers)..Uconnect will never allow outside app integration so they can run their own show, which they do. Uconnect is not as great as I hoped. With that said, I ordered the Proclip hardwire setup that was suggested and currently waiting for it, a $177 IPhone 6 "watch your Waze app"holder.. Lol

Great point supercaliber. I might add the option is all I'm asking for. An optional cup/phone holder. For those of you who don't need it, you wouldn't get it. I don't want to change the interior but as stated for a guy my height, the web mesh is out of reach I my driving position, and cup holders are.... Well.... For cups.
