I'm sure that I'm preaching to the choir here, but I am very WOWED so far with the Scat Pack. I did quite a bit of research on the car (reading reviews, YouTube, etc.) before deciding that the Scat Pack was the one I would get if I wanted to go with a Challenger. I used to drive Chrysler Crossfires and had a couple of SRT-6 models for a while and have had some model of Mopar in the house since '93. I definitely wanted something fast and slightly obnoxious. I did test drive a '17 Camaro with the 2SS package just to see what it was all about. Nice car, but small, and Chevy didn't want to deal.
We went to the Dodge dealership in Gilbert, AZ, and test drove a couple of Scat Packs, both manual and automatic. I really loved the manual, but the girlfriend gets a bit car sick with a manual transmission for whatever reason. I opted for the automatic transmission as it is nice to have her along on drives. I'm liking the auto pretty well and it seems pretty tight so far. It is better than the 5 speed auto that came with the Crossfire (which was pretty good).
We purchased it on Friday and didn't get home until after dark. It's been raining quite a bit here (yes it rains in the desert believe it or not) the past few days so I haven't been able to drive it that much. So, having the day off, still cloudy, but no rain, I washed her (still haven't given her a name yet) and then took a little drive to get some lunch and take it to my girlfriend's work. It's about a 25 mile drive from the house. I did get a chance to play with some of the buttons, levers, gauges, etc.
There are a lot of two-lane highways where I live and there is no shortage of slowpokes who like to go 5-10 under the speed limit. I'm sure you have all experienced the same thing. So, the first time I passed another car was today. I was quite surprised on how well the car took off without having to floor it. Of course I had to pass a few more cars as well to keep the smile going on my face.
The sound of the exhaust. How to describe it... Dare I say nirvana? I have never had a car with this kind of exhaust note before. I had the chance to drive the with the windows down today as well for a bit before arriving back home. Downshifting to 3rd at 60 while decelerating is quite pleasing to say the least. The sound of the acceleration is a whole different level as well with the windows down.
It appears that more rain is on the way for the next week or so. I'll have to suffer with driving it lightly with the windows up for now.
