Unfortunately, a 4.7 HO would be looked down upon by most people, esp 5.7/6.1 L Hemis. It's a perfectly serviceable block, just doesn't have the charisma.
I imagine it wouldn't be too much effort on D/C's part to come up with a "Baby" Hemi...again, to one-up the 4.6L Ford.
IMHO
LJB
PS: Relax, Mega Hemi Wanna-Haves. D/C heard you, and, barring out of site gas prices, they WILL build at least a 6.1 Hemi Challenger.
Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 1 - Choose your Powertrain
I know the plant in Ontario is operating at near capacity, but D/C Must Build This Car, even if it means sacrificing production space on another model !! { or maybe they could buy a plant from GM :-) } Starting out with R/T & SRT powertrains would be outasight ! If D/C keeps faithful to the body in production, this car would rule !

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 1 - Choose your Powertrain
Forgive me, but I presently own a 2004 GTO for one reason: it is a performance car built for performance, which means it HAS a manual, 6-speed tranny. I bought a 2006 Magnum SRT-8 to replace it, and though it has a lot of get-up-and-go, I gave it to the wife because shifting is one of the few tasks left for the skilled driver in this day of traction control, anti-lock brakes, and stability programs.
Chrysler: please build the Challenger just as it sits at the Detroit Auto Show. Don't ruin it with that ridiculous Auto-Stick - you know, the one that you have to manually shift 500 RPM BEFORE the redline to avoid hitting the rev limiter. The same one that shifts softer than my old Cordoba (remember those?). A performance car need guts and a real driver. Save the autos for that peculiar crowd that wants to look good and still get V-6 mileage. You blew it with the 4-door Charger; here is your chance to redeem yourselves and put me back in a Mopar where I belong!

Got to have a Hi Perf Auto. You can play with your stick all day but a crisp auto with a good converter will always be quicker. That's the bottom line.

It all depends whose driving and how far you will let the tach go before you shift.
