Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 1 - Choose your Powertrain
I voted for the 350hp manual tranny, however I would consider the 425hp Hemi depending on price. Just give me a V8 manual and keep those great looks. And yes, a convertible should be an option.....SWEEEEET.
I've been a Chevy man my entire life, but I'll be one of the first to sign up for the Challenger. Dodge is on to something BIG here. The return of the muscle car wars may be exactly the fix for Detroit's woes. The table will turn on the foreign manufacutures who cannot compete in old school muscle and design.
Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 1 - Choose your Powertrain
My two cents: Build it just like it looked at Cobo Hall. Offer the option of having NO OPTIONS!!! There isn't one mopar guy out there that wouldn't agree. Let the customer choose which features they want. I know logistically thats an expensive endevour, but some of us treasure our old Mopars for their simplicity. If I want to spend 1500$ on an upgraded audio system, I'm not gonna order the top stereo from the factory!!!. Let me decide after the purchase what I want in the deck (If I even want a stereo). The exhaust has to sound good, not offensively loud (haven't we all had enough tickets in our youths?) I love the purr of my Borla from my Ram, THAT is what we need in the Challenger. Make the 5.7 the R/T and the 6.4 the "Special Edition" then all the buyers for the SE would have braggin rights over the R/T's. Don't throw all the high performance engines in the same pot........... Base V6 for sure also to help out the ladies.......
Here's a thought......... How about a lock-out feature for when my son wants to take the car? Maybe a swtch like the airbag switch in my truck. Knock that hemi from 425 down to 200? Not too unreasonable. Help us all out in the longrun with insurance and our kids safety. That way you won't have all these fanatics screaming down your throat about the risks and dangers.
Well I guess that's about five cents worth........ Just my opinion.
I own : Ram Daytona, 72 Road Runner, and I am 40 Years young. Mopar guy my entire life!
Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 1 - Choose your Powertrain
The car is beautiful the way it is, but the huge wheels need to go. They really don't fit the car. How about some wheels that show some meat on the tires?
Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 1 - Choose your Powertrain
Well, no question that a stick with the biggest motor you can get. What happend to the 6.4. I have been mopar from the beggining, building big block runners & cudas & others even back when mopar wasnt popular. When I seen this car I trully got excited about bying a new car for the first time in my life. Do it right guys, dont kill the looks & dont kill the price & it will be the first new car I have ever bought. I am 45 years old now, its about time i could buy a new car that was cool instead of having to build it.
You guys have stole my heart, please dont screw this up & break it.
Being a second generation Mopar enthusiast for the past 25 years, I have seen a lot of changes and ups and downs in the Mopar line up. At 6 I had the priviledge of riding in my dad's 70 Road Runner with a blue printed and balanced 440, and his 70 Super Bee with a blueprinted and balanced 383 Magnum. What can I say other than I was hooked for life. Since then I have followed the Mopar cars through their 'big' years (mid to late 70's), their 'smaller' years (in the 80's, of which I have 3 Daytona Shelbys), their growing stable of performance cars in the 90's (Viper, Prowler, Stealth(-even though it was a Mitsubishi car mechanically)), and through to the current crop of models (300, Charger, future Challenger). I am very pleased to see the new Challenger concept (although I wasn't lucky enough to see it at the Toronto Auto Show), and look forward to the day I can park my new Challenger beside my current 'E-bodies' (a 1970 Barracuda and a 1974 Barracuda).
