Prowlers and Vipers are cool,
but i've never known anyone that owned one.
And i know lots of people with pricey German cars and Vettes.
Ford screwed the pooch in targeting the T-Bird at
greyhaired empty-nesters and pricing it $40k;
[and no SC version with the Jag "S" engine at all],
so now they're killing it for not gaining even enough
market for a specialty car.
Chevy's SSR truck will be next to get axed.
Remember Typhoon & Cyclone trucks back in 89 or so?
Detroit has made way too many Neat Cars Nobody Can Buy.
The cool thing about the musclecar era was,
you didn't have to be a Rock Star to buy a Hemi Cuda,
if that's what you wanted instead of a Coronet sedan.
I will prolly opt for a 5.7 /M6 myself,
but if Challenger comes to market ONLY as a 425-500HP
overpriced "Specialty" item, it won't mean squat to me or
99.99% of other sports coupe buyers.
If that happens, well,
another new Mustang isn't too bad a thing, at all.
Ahhh....Somebody else get's it. Good for You SubLime!
Naturally, this Forum is going to be FILLED with early adapters who will spring for the Fully Loaded, Highest HP Car (Myself at the Front of the Line). But, I'm a 50 year old white male with a fully loaded wallet (not married).
A high winding V6 model, lightweight, with good suspension, trans, brake, etc., hardware, and the RIGHT AMOUNT of visual touches (Smaller, dual exhaust SS Tips, tasteful, spirited color/trim combos, low cost but well executed Buckets, distinctive Striping, etc.) will SELL this car to all the Kids who normally buy the Factory Souped Subies, Mitsu's, Mazdas, etc.
You shouldn't have to be a Rock Star to afford the Challenger, esp the "T/A" model I just outlined above. And, you shouldn't have to drive around town with your tail between your legs if you buy this model.
Best Regards to All Here, and, Esp. the Boys at D/C;
Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 1 - Choose your Powertrain
Build it! I guarantee you if you keep it just like it is, it will sell like hotcakes. I will defenitly buy one. Oh yea, try and keep the WEIGHT down as much as possible! I cannot stress how much ya'll should keep the WEIGHT down. Keeping the WEIGHT down is a strong selling point.
Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 1 - Choose your Powertrain
Being the ownder of a Ram SRT-10 with the 6-speed, I had to pick the 425 6-speed. But the 5 speed auto-stick sounds good as well. No clutch to worry about. I see that most people chose the 425 6 speed, but I expected that here. We are all a bunch of horsepower hungry gear slammin motorheads!
Build it, and I'll think about selling my Truck for one...

DCX- Have you guys read through the posts in this thread? Do you realize the emotion and passion this car triggers in people? Now that's how you sell cars....and lots of them.
I want my Challenger loaded to the gills with all the fancy gadgets. Some people don't, which is fine. All I ask for is that we be given choices to build the car the way we want. I really like some of the old high-impact colors. Give people a choice if they want this or not. Auto or manual....I'll take either one. Just give me the car already!

A good point. But, it pretty much eliminates the LX Chassis as the basis for the Challenger. The LY Chassis it has to be, esp if MoPar wants to build a credible performing V6 Model.
Anybody know if the LY Chassis is a Done Deal? If they build it, I mean...
Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 1 - Choose your Powertrain
This is a no brainer! Build it with the biggest most powerful HEMI V8 that can be stuffed under the hood. Back up the HEMI with the High torque Viper Tremec T56 6-speed manual transmission. If the rumors are true that a 500 HP V8 is coming then perhaps it could be offered as a limited production “SRT Challenger” version complete with a certificate of authenticity (like the SVT Cobra). Baby boomers will snap it up. Probably would be a good idea to have an optional automatic transmission available for the daily driver crowd that have to sit in traffic every day commuting to work.
The Mopar faithful have been waiting and waiting to get back in the game with a fire breathing V8 and a stick. The Baby Boomers are quickly becoming Empty Nesters. There is a growing market out there of “Empty Nesters” with the money and desire to replace the Muscle car they used to have. I frequently talk to guys in my age group (45 to 55) that regret selling the Muscle car they had back in high school.
Besides the awesome good looks of the Challenger concept car, much of the buzz and energy surrounding it is the fact we all know that a HEMI V8 and a stick already exist and are readily available. Don't compromise this vehicle with anything less than the most potent V8 and manual transmission Mopar has to offer. Nothing stirs the soul of an enthusiast more than rowing through the gears of a high performance V8 and the seat of the pants feel as the torque presses you back into the seat and the throaty sound of a V8 as the RPM's and horsepower climb is indescribably exhilarating… much like having really great sex.
