Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 1 - Choose your Powertrain
Not hard to figure out
Start out with the 5.7L w/ the cylinder shut off thing on the freeway. Price it right around $25k to compete with the mustang. More power, better gas milage, better looking, faster. Mustang's toast.
Next the 6.1L at $28k and then the 6.4L SRT version at $31k-32k. (these are are starting prices, no interior options)
Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 1 - Choose your Powertrain
I would love to support the Challenger with my $$. As long as it's an automatic (no hate for those who want a stick shift), I'll have no problems. Those HEMI's sound wonderful!
Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 1 - Choose your Powertrain
I voted for the 5.7L with the 6 speed. I think the 5.7 would be a good motor to start with, but making them all options would be best. I hope they don't screw with the styling like they did to the Charger concept on 1999 and 2000.
Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 1 - Choose your Powertrain
I would love the 6.4L n/a but I really would love a 6.1L SC model for the SRT-8! About 550hp would do nicely for an SRT wouldn't you say?! PLEASE MAKE IT A STICK! DODGE HAS ENOUGH AUTOMATICS! Plus, the point is to kill competition right? Offer a 6-speed with the SRT-8 and give the whiners the automatic with the other models.

It would appear D/C IS going after the Kid's Market.
IF they make it available with, or amicable to, a bunch of Tuner Parts, they may have a whole new generation of MoPar Fanatics to tend to...
You Listening out there...Ma MoPar?
LJB
They have already started a whole new generation of Mopar fanatics with the SRT-4. The SRT-4 brought a lot of individuals into a Dodge for the first time. That's why it's so important for them to get the Challenger right, so that as the people move up from something like the SRT-4, they can keep it in the family and get a Challenger.
Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 1 - Choose your Powertrain
i voted for the 350hp/6spd but if the actual price difference to get the 425hp motor was only $800 i would buy that but i know that isn't true. you add too many includes for the topend models.
you should offer the big motor with a stripdown package. all i want is power windows, power locks, a/c, cheap cd deck, and no sound insulation. weight matters.
Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 1 - Choose your Powertrain
I have been thinking about the powertrain poll and all the different answers and opinions and it seems that there should be a poll about preferences for comfort, convenience and appearance options. This would include things like leather, nav systems, wheels and the like. I personally like feelthebreak's idea except no power windows or locks and I want cruise control. I just sold a 2000 Mustang Cobra R to pay for a Challenger so I want more amenities than it but not many more.
Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 1 - Choose your Powertrain
I voted 350hp, 6spd.
But I'm really surprised by the suggested price differentials. A base Charger SE is about $23k and a Charger with alloy wheels and a shiny grill is about $3k more. So If I'm reading this right, for a Challenger I'll be able to get 425hp for $3k over the cooking V6 ?
Bargain.
When I bought my Charger SXT, given the choice I'd 'ave rather spent the extra 3k on a 425hp motor than a 60/40 split rear seat, fog lights, shiny grill, SXT badge etc etc. (and I'm happy to wind up windows myself).
Other than that moan, I bought the Charger 'cos there was nothing like it.
Get the Challenger out, I (the kids) will be able to cope with 2 doors soon.
