Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

Yes, I would buy it with an auto - but always regret it didn't have a 6 speed. PLEASE build this one - and build it right. I've got a '71 Cuda in my garage that I love, and the idea of parking one of these next to it has got me drooling.

You can not make this car without the six speed, I might buy it with an automatic but doubtful. My dakota R/T is a dog with the automatic, to much electronic crap to have fun. Don't give us the horsepower and not let us have fun with it.

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

I'd be disappointed with no manual, but I'd most likely still buy it. Not sure if the delivery truck at work would be able to fill the man. trans. void in my life though.

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

Forgive me, but I presently own a 2004 GTO for one reason: it is a performance car built for performance, which means it HAS a manual, 6-speed tranny. I bought a 2006 Magnum SRT-8 to replace it, and though it has a lot of get-up-and-go, I gave it to the wife because shifting is one of the few tasks left for the skilled driver in this day of traction control, anti-lock brakes, and stability programs.

Chrysler: please build the Challenger just as it sits at the Detroit Auto Show. Don't ruin it with that ridiculous Auto-Stick - you know, the one that you have to manually shift 500 RPM BEFORE the redline to avoid hitting the rev limiter. The same one that shifts softer than my old Cordoba (remember those?). A performance car need guts and a real driver. Save the autos for that peculiar crowd that wants to look good and still get V-6 mileage. You blew it with the 4-door Charger; here is your chance to redeem yourselves and put me back in a Mopar where I belong!
