Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection
Yes, options for those who hate shifting. You will still have a chance with the next upgraded T56 tranny that will be able to support 700 plus lbs of TQ.
Expect a SRT version after the release of the 6.1 R/T version within a few months time.

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection
I understand alot of people out there arn't in the same position as myself, but IMO this car should be a focused market, limited production, Muscle car for the people that cant quite make the leap to the 80+K for the Viper.
I love the look of the Challenger and Im a Mopar fan, but if it dont have a stick, and big HP, I'll buy something else. IMO it should only come with Manual 6 speed and the 6.1L 371cu 425 HP Hemi or the 6.4L 392cu 500+ HP Hemi. |

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection
I am a die hard Hot Rodder and all my streeters had Manuals. the only thing with an Auto now is my truck for long hauls. Need to have a Manual Tranny sort of Tradition!
1. If it came down to it I would replace it! But shouldnt have to. at least make it an option. ![]()

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection
I despise automatic transmissions. Always have, always will. Inherited a 74 Dodge Van from my father's business in 75, and when the auto had problems in 79, I picked up a 4th-over tranny from a junkyard and had all the parts machined to fit it in the van. Gas mileage went from 12 to 20 overnight.
Having said that I now live in LA, and a straight drive here is as useful as breasts on a boar-hog. The only thing I will have with a manual here is a motorcycle. On a car it is the purist torture. So, heresy that this is, I would not buy the 6-speed manual Challenger period. |

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection
Would I still buy the car? Even if Dodge put in a 3-on-the-tree I'd buy it. Don't get me wrong, I want the 6 speed manual but beggars can't be choosers. Dodge better get something official soon cuz GM is very close to announcement for the Camaro I understand.
