Talking Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

No. if the Challenger is not offered with a manual tranny I will purchase another car for my weekend driver (Corvette or BMW M5). I love my 300C SRT-8 and will continue to use it as my Daily Driver. I will purchase the Challenger for a weekend car with manual tranny only. If the biggest engine available is the 6.1 and the tranny a 5 speed autostick, then it would be pointless to buy one, as I already have that combo in my daily driver. Make the 6.4 an option (regardless of price) and offer it as a manual tranny (5 or 6 speed) and I will buy without a doubt. Offer a convertible with the 6.4 and a six speed manual and I'll write you a blank check now.

Please leave us a car to remember many years later(as well as now), that would beat all its competition including The new Shelby GT-500. Amen.

Please DCX, do not lose sight of your original idea:

"The '70 model is the most sought after by collectors. But instead of merely recreating that car, the designers endeavored to build a Challenger most people see in their mind's eye--a vehicle without the imperfections like the old car's tucked-under wheels, long front overhang, and imperfect fits. As with all pleasurable memories, you remember the good and screen out the bad. We wanted the concept car to evoke all those sweet memories . . . everything you thought the Challenger was, and more."
- Tom Tremont, vice president, advanced vehicle design.

So, what you have to do is exactly what Vanishing Point described above. Keep it simple and to the point. Keep it a real muscle car.

Thank you for listening.

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

Vanishing Point can add one more to his list. I just signed up to put my 2 cents in on the pole. I was in Detroit last week and told the Dodge guys if they make the Challenger with the 6.4, 6spd, plum crazy with a shaker I would give them my deposit on the spot. They just smiled and told me to circle next spring on my calander.

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

My original was a '70 383 Slapstic. This time I'd like it all! (6.4 w/ six speed).
Still take the auto if that's all they offered.

In my opinion, both a manual and an automatic need to be available. I would definately purchase the manual first, and look at other cars if a manual were not available.

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

The auto for the 6.1 is already developed for the 6.1 in the SRT-8 Charger. Give us a 6 speed stick option in both cars! A Shaker Hood option would be nice, even if it's aftermarket from Mopar Performance. More than ONE gear ratio would be nice too...

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

Am I the only one who finds this second poll a bit distressing? This seems like a bean counter trick to see how many folks would compromise and buy off on a cheaper-to-build (more expensive to buy), single tranny car.

You need to build the car with both a 6 speed and automatic option, staying true to your heritage. Its been said over and over ad nauseum on these forums. Personally, if I wanted to drive an auto I'd buy a corolla.
