You need to build the car with both a 6 speed and automatic option, staying true to your heritage. Its been said over and over ad nauseum on these forums. Personally, if I wanted to drive an auto I'd buy a corolla.
corollaaaaaaaaaa!!!!!!!!!!!!
maybe a 300c srt-8 or a magnum srt-8

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

For nostalgia purposes maybe they should go with a 4 spd. Just kidding. As much as I like sticks, nowadays with the way automatics are, an auto would work great also. As long as they build it and without the V6.

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

I prefer the manual (as long as it is Miata precise, short direct throws, not notchy or rubbery. Like a well oiled bolt action rifle). If they give us a clunky long throw vague shifter, I'll get the auto. A manual must be great for me to enjoy it, like my old BMW 5 Series.

If I wanted an SRT-8 with an auto, I'd look at the 300 or the Jeep.

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

I love the concept car and it would break my heart if they did not offer it with a stick. Have never owned and will never own an auto tranny. Have driven them and never liked them. I want this car bad so hope that dodge does not let me down.

Well said^^^^Insist on the 6 speed manual only though. They are going to offer it in the automatic anyway thanks to the "Automatic Americans"

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

I voted no because I have the Charger SRT8. If the Challenger only comes with the auto, well, I have that now.

Bingo. Is there any question whatsoever the automatic option will get built, with or without the poll?? Nope. The question to be asked here is "what can we build to entice you to buy it", which is different than the question that comes to mind when I think about this poll (and which I conveniently omit). The answer for many of us (myself included) is include a 6-speed manual option.

Thanks DCX for hearing what we have to say.

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

Well, as long as they build the Challenger, I honestly don't care what tranny they put in it; if people want to be snobby about it, well good for me, less people in line to buy one then...

This said, even if I can drive both sticks (20 years experience) and autos, I would like to say that nowadays you can find auto trannies that are quite sophisticated and very well performing. In my present car, a 2005 Ford Mustang GT, I have a 5sp auto tranny and it performs like a champion.
Personally, the ideal choice would be an SMG (BMW) or DSG (Audi) type tranny: offering both of best worlds (especially the SMG), but thinking that DCX will want to have one available for the Challenger, it's just utopic (hey you DCX guys, anyway feel free to surprise me, ok ? ... ...)...
For the macho crowd I also would like to say that many real muscle cars (=1964-1972) were sold with auto trannies...and today, in the highest form of motorsport competition, Formula 1, no cars use sticks anymore.
So at the end of the day, using a stick does not mean that a) you are true to the golden era's muscle cars and b) an auto and/or semiauto tranny is only for soccer moms...
It's the 21st century, guys...
