So at the end of the day, using a stick does not mean that a) you are true to the golden era's muscle cars and b) an auto and/or semiauto tranny is only for soccer moms...
It's the 21st century, guys...
I think you missed one thing, the fact that these will not mostly be pure track cars, but street cars with huge potential on weekends. Just look at the number one car running drag strips in street class......Mustangs.

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

Ok, after reading some of the responses, and being an old fart that has owned a few Challengers, Road Runners and Chargers, I would say that Yes, I would buy it if it didn't come with the 6-speed option. Would I be happy? Maybe. Most of the muscle cars I have owned have been autos and I have been very happy. There is bit more parasitic HP loss with an Auto, but it is manageable. That being said, when I bought my Ram SRT-10, I had to have the manual. I have never regretted it since.
So, would I buy one if the manula was not offered? Yes. Would I rather have it with the 6-speed, definitely.

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

Having a 300C SRT-8. I would want the manual with the 6.4. I could live with the 6.1 but not without the 6 speed. The Camaro will be offered with the manual and the Mustang has it. If the Challanger does not get it lots of sales will go there

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

I would buy the car in either form. I owned a 1972 Challenger Rallye and it had the slapstick shifter in it and always made me very happy. If the car was only going to be built with an auto transmission, then I would prefer the set up to be a slapstick type shifter as I owned two Intrepids with the auto stick and was never really satisfied with that set up. I as well as my brothers just want the car! How many times in life do you get the chance to go back and do something over again? Build it, we'll certainly buy it (3 of them)!

This car needs a Manual to compete with the Mustangs.

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

First, see Vanishing Point #19 post.

Second, no 6-speed is better than no car at all, but barely.

Third, knowing that the Shelby 500 is on the way, and having the 6.4L FULL 500++ available, how can you not offer that option? I can just see the magazines doing a "shoot-out" with the new muscle cars and that Mustang having a 15-20% advantage in hp.

Last, you might be surprised at how many people would spend another $10-15K for a real special edition. Hennessey and GS Motorsports, to name a couple, seem to be doing OK with this concept.

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

I could live with the auto too. I have a 300c and that tranny shifts so smooth. But I know after like 1 week I'd be thinking "Man this car would be a real animal with the stick." Come on, isn't one of the reason this car has so much mystique about it, is because of the 6 speed w/ the pistol grip? I mean obviously the lines are the major selling point, but that tranny engine combo just puts it over the top and then some.

I would only buy a standard on a muscle car, and it MUST be a conv.

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

You Have To Remember You Will Allways Have More Troubles With A Stick Than An Auto. I Had A 68 Road Runner With A 4 Speed And It Was A Bummer From Fatory. It Had Bad Stop Rings And Synos And It Keep Breaking The Pins That Hold The Fingers In The Preasure Plate.they Allways Fixed It Under The 5/50 Warrenty But When It Went Out Of Warrenty I Put In An Auto And Only Lost 2 Tenths Of A Second And It Was Trouble Free After That. 383 With 4.10 Gears. IT NEVER BROKE AT THE STRIP ONLY DURING NORMALL DRIVING ON THE STREET.

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

I will buy one if it is produced regardless of the tranny, but a 6-speed pistol grip would definately put it over the top and would be a nice edition to my garage next to my 71 'Cuda, 4-speed! I will be waiting though for the convert to be produced so PLEASE DCX... don't wait to long.
