Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

DCX if you are listening, this would be a GREAT platform for a SIX speed auto, maybe with a couple of options for converter stall speed etc...

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

If you are going to have a car with some power it should at least have the manual option

Thumbs down Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

A manual transmission = more rear wheel power available for spanking Chevys. Automatic transmissions suffer from greater power loss than a manual transmission.
Typical "rule of thumb" driveline losses from the flywheel to rear wheels:
17% - Manual transmission
23% - Automatic transmission

If the Tremec 6-speed manual is not offered then I will not buy the car. That's just crazy.

Smile Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

Absolutely not: The reason I would not purchase one without a manual transmission is that I grew up with muscle cars. When I bought my first charger I was ok with it because of the power, in my heart I really wanted a stick(the one with the sword). Now that I'm 54 years old and us baby boomers who came from the service in early 71 we bought what AAFES had available, now I have a choice. Unless some of these 20 and thirty year olds have the money (rich kids) it will be elderly statesman such as myself who will purchase said challenger. Notwithstanding; the fact that my 10 year old pick up truck is awesome(Z-71) I want to sell it and buy a challenger. If I cannot have what I want then I'll buy another pick up. My motorcycle is high end and the only reason I bought this Titan was because I could freak it at the factory. Who doesn't remember before and after high school and the service that dodge ruled. Thank You raffi...

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

remember the slip free U-Joint this left a continuous patch of rubber? In those days they had the judge, the amx(chrysler engine), buick gs, mustang(joke), gto's(goats), did I mention camaro's? I lost very few street drags(383 with 375 horsies in a wedge shaped charger) if I had a stick it would have been carnage.

Thumbs up Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

I would consider a automatic but would prefer 6 speed manual. I am a long time mopar fan and my first car was a four speed Cuda. The 6 speed manual would be first and only choice. I would place my order now for a 6 speed 425 horse challenger

I voted no. This car would be for fun driving so I would not want an Auto.

Re: Challenger Powertrain Question - Part 2 - Transmission Selection

Voted, and it must offer a manual. Ensure it's a sporty shifting manual and not some shifter with agricultural action.
