A Challenger question:
The 09 SRT will have a 6spd option. Is there a diff change or it the same diff that's in the charger? If it's the same will the 3.91 gears and carrier fit in the charger diff?
BTW I'm a die hard chevy guy and was waiting for the camaro, but you guys really got it right with the challenger. I'll be picking up a 6spd. vert when they come out.
Soryy, one more. A general SRT8 question.
What are your thoughts on E85 gas in the 6.1. Are the fuel components and fuel pump ok for this? Other than possibly needing a larger injector and some tune modifications, would anything else be needed on these motors? I know the mileage will go down, but we didn't buy these for the mileage. I thought it might run a little better since the octane rating of E85 is much higher (105ish?)
Initially I understood the 2008 Challengers were going to have Limited Slip Diffs., but since then I've heard that only the 09's will have the "Sure Grip" version . I've had many people on this forum help explain the various types available, but I still don't know what's coming on my 08 , Canadian 500.
Can you please explain to me what they are coming with, and how they work.
Greatly Appreciated!!
Thanks
First I'd just like to thank the SRT Team for their hard work. I've been drooling over this car for over a year checking virtually daily, loving the sneak-peak videos and all that. What an impressive machine and I can't wait until I get my '09 SRT8!
As for questions.
[1] From an overall project standpoint, what was the overall goal when creating the Challenger SRT8 when compared to the overall goal of the Charger SRT8. Basically, how did the vision differ from the Charger SRT8 when you set out to create the Challenger SRT8?
[2] Knowing the Charger SRT8 is very similar in platform, I am curious if there were there any significant barriers you ran into with the Challenger SRT8 or if a lot of the things were easily translated from the Charger into the Challenger with minimal tweaking.
Thanks again guys! I've never been more excited about a car then with the Challenger. Can't wait!
1) We wanted the Challenger SRT8 to have its own personality and driving experience, not just looks. We intentionally tuned the suspension to have a unique, slightly softer musclecar ride with different spring balance due to the different wheelbase. The shock tuning is unique, too. What we found was that we could make it ride much better than we expected and still keep the handling. As a result we retuned the '08 Charger and 300C srt8s to have a better ride. The Challenger SRT8 has its own exhaust tuning as well.
2) There was a ton of tweaking, but it was not necessarily hard. In fact, it was nice to take another look at the platform. The more we get to develop a platform, the more refined the cars get, ala the Porsche 911.
Hello everyone, thanks to all the SRT Engineers in advance for all your resposes your answers will be very helpfull.
My first question is regarding the transmission on my 06' Charger SRT8, why do the RPM's go down to between 1 & 2 when the speed of the vehicle is around 30 - 40mph?
Depending on how much throttle you're giving it, an RPM drop could either be a shift to 3rd gear or the torque converter going into lockup mode.
Looking for your thoughts or feedback related to my experiences recently with autocrossing my Caliber SRT4 and perceived sluggish throttle (i.e. bogging). This occurs after braking and passing the turn in point when I get back on the throttle, the car seems to bog or I guess more accurately it seems to take to long to respond to the throttle input. I'm keeping the car in 2nd gear through the turn and the RPMs aren't dropping incredibly low, I would say the lowest is probably around 2700 RPM.
I've heard other people talk about similiar experience with the car seeming to bog and not respond fast enough to throttle input. Thoughts? Is this a side affect of something with the ETC?
Second question I have is that if I pick up a set of winter wheels and tires, is there a way for the end user to program in new pressure sensors? I have the performance pages if that matters.
Third question, any idea when the '09 SRT Experience schedule will be released?
On another note I know you can't comment on future products so I won't ask but I will put my vote in for stage kits for this car.
If you are down to 2700 and off the throttle, you will need a little time to build boost back up. There is some slight throttle delay, but I bet the boost is a bigger player. Typical of turbos, you will need to lead the car a bit with the throttle like skeet shooting. If you come to SRT Nationals in Atlanta in July, we can discuss it more in person and apply it at the night autocross.
You can just get new tire pressure sensors that are the same as you have now. It will take about 10 minutes of driving on the winter wheels for the car to sense them, and you'll be all set. This also applies if you damage one and get a new pressure sensor in one wheel.
It is way too soon for the '09 Track experience schedule. I doubt anyone has even discussed it, yet.
Again I will ask about my 2006 cherokee srt8. The service tire press. system will not stay off for more than just a minute or 2. The dealer has had it 3 times now and can't seem to make it stop. Any thing that you might do to help would make otherwise wonderfull vehicle near perfect. Is there someone to call for help for them and me. I really can't expect a fix from the forum but maybe some help some where. Thanks Ron HELP PLEASE
It could be a couple of items. The vehicle should give a fault if the sensors or reciever are not functioning correctly. The dealer diagnostic tools would read these. Did the dealer say if he found any faults or replaced any parts? I will assume he checked the obvious and there is no issue with the actual pressure in the tire.

Hello and thanks for taking my question, Will the rear differential ring and pinion from a N/A crossfire fit in a SRT6? Does the ecu monitor axle speed and if so will the ecu go into limp mode with different gears or just turn the cel on? I'm wanting to change from stock SRT6 gears to n/a crossfire gears because that rear is limited slip and has a 3.27 gear ratio. The cases look the same. Thank you !
Sorry, we don't have any Crossfire experts that can answer the part interchangability question, but we can tell you that the gear ratio is used as an input to the transmission logic. Changing the rear end to a different ratio without changing the calibration will result in the car going into limp mode.
