Hey guys, I'm still kinda new here but I thought it might make sense to collect some concise info for the upcoming engineer chat session, in one thread, concerning the engine misfire problem.
This is, perhaps, the most troublesome problem facing new Challenger owners ... well, at least six-speed owners. The idea would be to offer all of the forum's data in ONE place, to HELP the engineers find the best, most expedient solution. Here's my outline :
1. POLL DATA : At last look, it seems to plague about 1 out 6 owners of six-speed SRT8 vehicles. That's based on a decent sample size of over 50 owners.
2. SYMPTOMS : Range from nothing more than indicator light, to actual evidence that fuel is being cutoff from #7 cylinder. I think there's some evidence to suggest that the problem is aggravated by "bad gas", perhaps with an ethanol mix, but this is most likely not the fundamental issue. You guys can certainly provide more concise info here than me!
3. POTENTIAL FIXES : I've read several good thoughts, from crankshaft sensor replacement, adding shims to the sensor, or even simple firmware "masking" of #7 cylinder data (assuming it's erroneous). Would it really incur too much risk for a simple firmware change that simply ignores data from the #7 cylinder? Alternatively, we've heard cases of plug, coil, and other hardware swaps that really offered no improvement at all.
4. FLASH UPDATE : At least two independent sources have told us that a new flash fix will be available on 01/26/09. Can we get this verified? And, what will this flash do : sensor recalibration, or something more involved?
That's what I've got. Again, not trying to step on any toes here, but maybe we can keep this thread free of complaints so that we can OFFER some concise, helpful info to the Chrysler engineers. What do you guys think?
It would be really nice to get the build dates on the cars with problems. Maybe could help isolate the problem more? Plus it might keep some people from bringing their cars to the dealers. I for one would never want to bring my car to a dealer unless I absolutely had to.

Someone has done this, I wish I could find the actual post, I think it was about a month ago.
We had listed: Model, Year & build date.
At what time is the posting time for the SRT chat??

Couldn't agree more ... I prefer to avoid dealers as much as possible!
As far as build dates, that would probably be useful as well ...
I wasn't planning on joining the chat session, it was my thought that maybe someone more senior could point-to, or attach, this thread during the chat session ??? And then provide more details if requested ...
I think werewolf is headed in the right direction. I am a new owner that has only had the car 8 days and I am making my second trip to the dealer today. If I find out any information I will post it today(ie. confirmation of a fix etc.).As for avoiding the dealers, I am doing this to document the misfire issue. (It too happended to me 3 time this weekend).
Why does everyone hate the dealer so much? The techs are trained to fix our cars. This is what I do, I ask the General Manager or owner who the best tech is and I request that person, I know that some specialize and that does not always work. When the car is in the bay I walk over say hello and slip the guy $20 spot or more depending what is being done and ask them to take care of it properly. I learned this with my Harley and I can tell you it is amazing when you show these techs some respect and appreciation how they go out of their way to take care of your vehicle. I do not have problems when I go in for service.
*** Now I might not keep tipping someone if it is in the shop for the same thing over and over, but in general that is how I treat people that provide a service to me.
