I don't think it is a stupid idea; the R/T's brakes and suspension aren't that bad to say it won't handle or stop. It would still be worlds apart from the cars in the "good old days". But I do agree that a supercharged R/T would be a very sweet car.

Ditto! It's not stupid, it's cool. The original poster makes perfect sense. You used to be able to by the old muscle cars that way, and a lot of the sought after muscle cars are strip downs with the big engines. I'm sure that a lot of the SRT owners out there don't care much for half the bells and whistles on their cars, they just wanted the power. I'm ordering a "27f" (track pak) just with the stripes and sirius radio. If I could get the 6.1 in my R/T, I would. For that matter, If I could get an SRT in a strip down "27f" type package, I, and probably others, would too.

How about no power windows, no power locks, no A/C?

I'd bet if such a package was available, dodge wouldn't be able to build enough of them to keep up with orders.

While I have ordered an RT as something to actually drive around,,, my attention is peaked to see what the actual production factory drag car ordered with a 392 will be spec'd as before I plan my build out of the RT...

Might have an RT as a daily driver and a factory drag car that is my super toy.

Don't get me wrong, I like my A/C, but a lot of people take remove the compressor and lines because they say it takes off weight, so why not option it?

It bugs me to go to a car show and see a compressor missing, but the condenser and drier are still in front of the radiator and the accumulator is still attached to the firewall but the line connections are open and just there, seems like a waste.

Re: 6.1 Hemi in an R/T?

On another note, I still think power windows and power locks belong on a loaded car or luxury car, not a strip-down R/T. Just my opinion.

I used to work for GM and when meeting with the automotive people, I asked the question about power windows and locks. There were a few reasons told to me why they have become a standard feature and not an option

1. So many cars were being leased or purchased under"smart lease" or "smart buy" <-(GMAC terms), that it became important for cars to come back after the initial 24-36 month term with key features for sale in secondary market. Also, since minimum feature cars are harder to sell in the secondary market, the residual value would be lower by a higher margin then the actual MSRP savings of not having these options. Therefore, the actual financing terms would make the car more expensive in terms of monthly payments to the first "owner". Clearly people would not want to pay a higher monthly payment for a car with less features.

2. The automakers learned that packaging options lowered production costs and created efficiencies in the manufacturing process. So while you would think having manual door locks and manual windows as options would lower costs, the apparent cost savings are actually negated by having another set of parts to support both manual and power options. Since the majority of cars were being ordered with the power features, the cost of these items actually decreased and as less manual systems were needed in far fewer quantities, the cost of those items increased.

3. Final reason I heard is technology has advanced and these options are no longer associated with luxury since economy cars were sporting these features once available only on higher trim models.

As far as AC becoming a standard item,,, the same reasons apply to that feature

Re: 6.1 Hemi in an R/T?

Not to throw the thread off topic here, but it would be more cost-effective to buy the Mopar 6.4 and all the associated parts.

Re: 6.1 Hemi in an R/T?

I tend to like both....part of me likes the SRT optioned out, all the tec stuff is really cool!...At the same time, I like a striped down no A/C, big block, old school car. So ...as I said before i orderd the SRT & will be buying a beater R/T to mod out off the lot later.... If I could have gotten a R/T plain jane with the big motor I would have.
